Domingo de hongos 🍄😃 / Fungi Sunday 🍄😃

Saludos hivers.

Hello hivers. On Sundays, I go to the park to practice Qigong and Tai Chi, and I also take the opportunity to photograph nature, something I absolutely love 💚. In Venezuela, we only have two seasons, summer (the dry season) and winter (the rainy season). We are currently in the rainy season, while the rainfall hasn't been constant, it has been enough for a very unique form of life to emerge within the park's woods, mushrooms 🍄😃. The ones I’ve come across in recent months are quite different from those I’ve previously photographed and shared here on Hive. I invite you to join me on this magnificent fungal walk to discover them, come along and enjoy this exhibition 😌.

Most of the fungi I’ve found in the park and posted here have been small and very delicate, the ones I’m sharing today, however, are big and strong. I don’t know if this has to do with the climate, the soil, or the type of dead logs, but it’s something that really catches my attention.

With the exception of two or three emerging from the ground, the rest were on fallen, decaying logs, and some grew among the surface roots of certain trees in the park.

Otro Ganoderma / Another Ganoderma

Some species of xylophagous fungi, which feed on the wood of decaying logs, are quite common on my walks through the park, they are fan-shaped and remain attached to the log even when dry and rigid, unlike other types that have the typical mushroom shape and disappear very quickly once they die.

I photographed these mushrooms last year when they were fresh, they are still there on the same log, even though they are now dry

Most of the fungi I am showing you today belong to the genus Ganoderma, which comprises about 80 species, they are characterized by growing on both decaying wood and living trees.

If you look closely, you will notice how one of the plant's branches either pierced the mushroom when this was just beginning to sprout, or was enveloped by the mushroom as it grew

The first time I saw a Ganoderma mushroom was recently and I was truly impressed, not just by its peculiar shape, but above all by its size, it was about 15–20 cm across 😱. It quickly caught my attention because it was all alone, there were no other mushrooms around.

I have been observing these Ganoderma mushrooms for three Sundays now and have noticed that they grow very quickly, each time I visit, they are larger than the previous Sunday. I did a little research to see if they are toxic, they aren't, so one day I touched them, their texture is smooth and hard, and although the sun was shining on them, they felt cold, they have a strange, rather strong odor. Some varieties are highly prized in traditional Chinese medicine, and scientific interest in them has grown recently, as they have been shown to possess valuable therapeutic and curative properties including anti-cancer, liver-protective, cholesterol-lowering, antiviral, antibacterial, antioxidantes effects, etc.

It's incredible how nature offers us remedies to cure any illness and completely free. Sadly, as a society, we have been conditioned to live under the sway of processed medications, these never aim to actually cure diseases, but simply to sustain one of the world's most profitable businesses: the pharmaceutical industry 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️. We are called to return to our roots and seek out that infinite pharmacy provided by Mother Nature, the only that truly heals the body and the mind.

Quizás vuelva a intentar pronto.
