Desfile de carnaval por los derechos de las mascotas y los animales / Carnival parade for pets and animals rights

Estamos en días de carnaval, en mi ciudad, cada año se realiza un desfile oficial donde participan las escuelas, clubes, academias y diferentes tipos de organizaciones locales. Un grupo de proteccionistas de los animales decidimos unirnos a esta fiesta llevando nuestro mensaje de tenencia responsable de mascotas.

We are in carnival days, in my city, every year there is an official parade where schools, clubs, academies and different types of local organizations participate. As a group of animal protectionists we decided to join this party carrying our message of responsible pet ownership.

A pet is forever

Cada uno debía hacer una pancarta con un mensaje. Yo hice la mía utilizando papel bond, colores, pintura al frío y marcadores. Muchas personas no ven a sus mascotas como parte de sus familias y ante cualquier problema o situación adversa no se les ocurre nada mejor que abandonar a su perro o gato. Es por eso que decidí usar ese tema para mí pancarta. Si bien cada país es diferente y muchos están más organizados y con mejores leyes para defender y actuar ante el abandono y el maltrato animal, en la mayoría de los países falta mucho por hacer.

Each one of us had to make a banner with a message. I made mine using bond paper, colors, cold paint, and markers. Many people don't see their pets as part of their families and in the face of any problem or adverse situation, they cannot think of anything better than abandoning their dog or cat. That's why I decided to use that theme for my banner. Although each country is different and many are more organized and have better laws to defend and act against animal abandonment and abuse, in most countries much remains to be done.

Millones de perros y gatos son abandonados a nivel mundial por quienes se supone que eran su familia así que quise enfocar mi pancarta en algunos de los “motivos” que impulsan a las personas a abandonar a su mascota, aunque obviamente no existe motivo que pueda justificar tan cruel y cobarde acción. Excusas como la mudanza, la llegada de un bebé, la falta de tiempo para atender a la mascota, etc. son apenas una muestra de la irresponsabilidad y la falta de compromiso con lo que significa adoptar un perro, un gato o cualquier otro animal.

Millions of dogs and cats are abandoned worldwide by those who are supposed to be their family so I wanted to focus my banner on some of the "reasons" that drive people to abandon their pet, although obviously there is no reason that can justify such a cruel and cowardly action. Excuses such as moving, the arrival of a baby, the lack of time to care for the pet, etc. They're just a sample of the irresponsibility and lack of commitment with what means adopting a dog, a cat or any other animal.

La hora pautada para el inicio del desfile eran las 3 de la tarde. Con mi grupo habíamos acordado encontrarnos a partir de las 2 pm en la plaza desde donde iba a partir la caravana. Me encanta el carnaval, los disfraces y todo eso así que por supuesto no iba a participar en un desfile de este tipo sin maquillarme jajaja. Como nuestro tema eran las mascotas, decidí maquillarme de gato. Cuando llegué era la única del grupo que se había maquillado 🤷🏻‍♀️ jajaja.

The time scheduled for the start of the parade was 3 in the afternoon. With my group we had agreed to meet from 2 pm in the square from where the carnival caravan was going to leave. I love carnival, costumes and all that, so of course I wasn't going to participate in a parade like this without putting on makeup hahaha. Since our theme was pets, I decided to do cat makeup. When I arrived I was the only one in the group who had put on makeup 🤷🏻‍♀️ hahaha.

El lugar estaba lleno de niños, jóvenes y adultos disfrazados y con el entusiasmo a tope para el desfile a pesar de que hacía bastante calor y el sol estaba en su máxima potencia jajaja.

The place was full of children, young people and adults in costumes and with full enthusiasm for the parade despite the fact that it was quite hot and the sun was at its maximum power hahaha.

A nuestra caravana le asignaron el número 51, o sea, la penúltima ya que en total eran 52 caravanas pero gracias a nuestra organizadora y a que no éramos un grupo grande (muchos de los que habían confirmado su asistencia al final no vinieron) nos metieron entre el 17 y el 18, en pocas palabras, nos coleamos jajaja 🤫.

Our caravan was assigned number 51, that is, the penultimate since there were 52 caravans in total, but thanks to our organizer and to the fact that we were not a large group (many of those who had confirmed their attendance in the end didn't come) they put us between number 17 and 18, in a few words, we cheated hahaha 🤫.

En nuestra caravana no podían faltar los perritos, por razones obvias no hubo gatos, dudo que se hubiesen quedado tranquilos en ese alboroto jajaja. Aquí nuestros tres hermosos compañeritos, se portaron muy bien.

In our caravan the puppies couldn't be missing, for obvious reasons there were no cats, I doubt they would have stayed calm in that rampage hahaha. Here our three beautiful companions, they behaved very well.

Eran las 4 pm y apenas habíamos avanzado unos metros pero mis compañeras estaban muy entretenidas conversando jejeje / It was 4 o'clock and we had barely advanced a few meters but my companions were very entertained talking hehehe

Por lo general, el trayecto desde la plaza de encuentro e inicio del desfile (Plaza de las madres) hasta el punto final, la plaza de la avenida (Plaza Campo Elias) se hace en media hora caminando a paso normal. Nosotros lo hicimos en algo más de una hora porque se van haciendo pausas para que los grupos bailen. Las fotos que vienen a continuación fueron tomadas por mi hermana @sofathana.

Normally, the journey from the meeting place and start of the parade (Plaza de las madres) to the final point, the square of the avenue (Plaza Campo Elias) is done in half an hour walking at a normal pace. We did it in just over an hour because there are breaks for the groups to dance. The photos below were taken by my sister @sofathana.

Tener una mascota es algo maravilloso pero también es una gran responsabilidad, cuando decides llevar a tu casa a un perro, un gato, una tortuga o cualquier otro animal de compañía, le estás dando cabida en tu casa y en tu familia, en el caso se las mascotas, se convierten en una especie de hijos adoptivos, con todo lo que eso implica, alimentación, control veterinario, un espacio donde pueda dormir y jugar, etc. sin embargo, una de las cosas más importantes es el tiempo que le vas a dedicar para compartir y hacer sentir a ese animalito como tu familia.

Having a pet is wonderful but it's also a big responsibility. When you decide to bring home a dog, a cat, a turtle or any other pet, you are making room for it in your home and in your family, they become a kind of adopted children, with all that that implies, food, veterinary control, a space where they can sleep and play, etc. However, one of the most important things is the time that you're going to dedicate to share and make that little animal feel like your family.

Si no tienes tiempo para sacar a pasear a un perro o jugar con un gato, es mejor que no lo tengas. Si crees que tu situación económica no puede cubrir sus necesidades básicas, no lo tengas. Si ante cualquier enfermedad que se le pueda presentar no estás dispuesto a ayudarlo y brindarle atención médica, no lo tengas. Si solo te gustan los cachorros, no tengas una mascota. Si piensas que hay que sacrificar a un perro o a un gato por el simple hecho de que ya están viejitos y no te entretienen como antes, no los tengas, porque tú también un día serás viejo y no te gustaría que tus hijos hicieran lo mismo contigo. Si tienes a una mascota y no la estetilizas, te llenarás de cachorros que probablemente no todos conseguirán un hogar, esteriliza y castra y evita más perros y gatos en situación de calle. Si vas a tener mascotas y cada vez que tenga cachorros los vas a botar a la calle o regalar a personas que no sabes como los cuidarán, no tengas una mascota. Si tienes una mascota para sacarle crías y ganar dinero, no tengas una mascota, ponte a trabajar y deja de explotar a los animales. Los animales son seres vivos, no son juguetes, un entretenimiento temporal, un capricho, un regalo que ya no te gusta, una responsabilidad que ya no puedes mantener o un objeto que tu pareja, hijos, etc te pueden decir que dejes atrás. Nunca los abandones, ellos nunca te abandonarían.

If you think you have to put down a dog or a cat simply because they're old and don't entertain you like before, don't have them, because one day you too will be old and you wouldn't want your children to do the same to you. If you have a pet and you don't sterilize it, you will fill yourself with puppies that probably not all will find a home, sterilize and castrate and avoid more dogs and cats living on the street. If you're going to have pets and every time they have puppies you're going to throw them out on the street or give them to people you don't know how they'll take care of them, don't have a pet. If you have a pet to breed and earn money, don't have a pet, go and find a job and stop exploiting animals. Animals are living beings, they are not toys, temporary entertainment, a whim, a gift that you no longer like, a responsibility that you can no longer maintain or an object that your partner, children, etc. may tell you to leave behind. Never leave them, they would never leave you.
