Thoughts over coffee: Part Two

Coffee and I are old friends (coffee is older than me of course) and I do a lot of thinking over coffee. With this in mind I decided to start a little concept called thoughts over coffee which I'll be doing from time to time.
I don't like laziness or reward it and while I don't have anything against down-time, relaxation, doing nothing and such other legitimate activities being lazy grinds my gears. There's many different forms of laziness including below.
Laziness - Fear
I know most don't relate laziness to fear however I think many people sometimes don't push through fear out of laziness and I see that as limiting. Saying things like, I simply can't do that, means that you won't do that...the first step towards achievement is to start out and by convincing ourselves we cannot do something isn't a productive step.
It's easy to stay safely within a comfort zone and let fear rule the day but it means that people miss out on great achievements and amazing moments.
I have fears, everyone does, and when I feel them I think about those times when I pushed forward through the fear barrier, took control, and the results I gained by doing so. Sure, I failed sometimes, but I always felt good knowing I'd tried, that I'd overcome that initial fear and each time it got easier.
I'm a strong believer in that a person's courage grows with use; this means that by showing a little courage now the next time will be easier and so on. It has been a good way for me to push on through the fear and to build better results.
What do you reckon? If you want to comment below then go ahead, I'm interested in your thoughts and experiences.

Indeed, and thanks for taking time to comment.

Hmm I never linked fear to lazyness, but that's a good point... I think you need to have some motivations to fight the fear and exit the comfort zone, like if it's work related, a monetary prize can surely push you
Fuck yeah, and well said!
I'd tend to agree. Courage is like a muscle, the more you use it the more it grows. As my father used to tell us ad nauseam...If you gently touch a nettle it will sting you for your pains, but if you grasp it like a man of metal, it as soft as silk remains.
My brother took him literally and tried it once...with predictable results.
Sometimes doing the best (and most difficult) things is a simple matter of creating a habit of it...and then oft n it becomes less difficult to do. I like your analogy, good also to see your comment, as always.
There is a lot of truth in what you say about fear and how to confront it.
It is true that we all have fear and it is not always bad because it allows us to be alert.
But, for me it has been bad to be afraid of failure because in some important stages of my life I let fear win over hope and I missed out on things I wanted and I didn't even know if I could achieve them because I didn't try.
And, that happened to me with a woman I didn't fall in love with because I feared she would reject me or with trying a new job because I thought I couldn't or leaving for another country for fear of not meeting expectations.
In the end, it is better to fail in the pursuit of happiness than to stop being happy for fear of failure.
Happy weekend.
Cheers and greetings.
How have you overcome your fears?
Believe me, it has not been easy.
But, I have understood that I am the result of what I am able to do for myself and, when I want to do something I go for it regardless of the final result,
I have accepted that fear is part of life, but, fighting against it too.
I have had more self-respect and self-esteem.
At this point in life I care less about what people think of me.
But, above all, I have learned to value my potentialities and I have understood that many times fear was a rowing to failure and that I cared more about what others thought than about my achievements and goals.
It sounds like you've got a good handle on it. Well done.
This really hit close to home! I’ve been having my own little “thoughts over coffee” moments lately and fear disguised as laziness? That explains so much.
For sure.
I reckon you're right on the money. If you don't exercise your courage you may become paralyzed by fear. I have known a few people who remained prisoners of their own making due to fear. Sadly, they can rarely be prompted, coached or goaded into facing those fears. It is something they alone must do.
Fear sometimes creeps in on me for one reason or another, and I do my best to alleviate it, but on occasion it lingers until I get mad enough to say the hell with it, let's do it.
Fear is often the reason people give in but I see it as strong motivation to dig in and dig deeper...that seems to deliver much better results although it's not always the easiest to do.
The older I get the more the 'fear focus' shifts to self preservation. I might fall and break a hip or fall down in my chicken run and get my eyes pecked out. Then I realize what I'm doing to myself and how stupid it is and get back to the business of living....without that fear. E'ryone gotta go sometime lol
We all feel it at some stage, but if we've played the rest of our lives well (or learned from not doing so) we have that ability to overcome it, see a way forward and move that way.
Yep,glad I've had the past experiences that I've had.
