The wind blows

It doesn't take much to ruin my photography, it's not all that great in the first place so I guess one could say it starts off ruined and accelerates its journey to full-on ruination as I proceed.

A few days ago I had the excellent idea to get some snaps in my garden. I'd looked out the window and there was no wind so out I went, macro lens fitted, and excited to get some snaps...and, ruination happened before I even got started. The wind came up.

Wind isn't great for macro photos as the subject moves and the shots turn out all blurry. I'm speaking for my macro shots here, yours might come out spectacularly well in the wind because you know what you're doing, but I don't so the slightest breeze ruins my photo shoot.

you fuck head (3).jpg

The wind wasn't all that strong, just enough to move the plants a little making photography virtually impossible...but I persisted, I'm not the quitting type. The wind won out though, and I quit. Well, I quit the outside part and ended up grabbing a few flowers to shoot inside. What you see here is a handful of those photos.

Rather than use my lightbox I chose to shoot in my kitchen using...umm, I'm not sure what they're called to be honest, for the base. It's a round thing that sits in the middle of the table and turns. A person puts stuff on it so that everyone around the table can turn the thingy and rotate the food within reach. I guess it's a person-operated-table-sitting-food-holding-turny-thingy. Yep, that's what it's called. This particular person-operated-table-sitting-food-holding-turny-thingy is wood-grained and I thought it might make a good background and different from that of my lightbox.

you fuck head (2).jpg

you fuck head (1).jpg

you fuck head (4).jpg

I've got a few other images of these flowers, daisies they're called, and will use them in a post here and there moving forward, but for now here's some photos I took just because the wind blows.

I wonder, what struggles or issues have you had when shooting photos? How have you overcome them, or did you just quit alter your state of motivation at the time and move on to something else? Feel free to comment below if you're keen and if not, then not.

You are totally right, when you say that the wind is not good for taking pictures using macro. I don't have a professional camera, I take all my photos with my cell phone, but that cell phone takes very good photos, just yesterday I published some photos using the macro, and I also made reference to a publication before that also using the macro, and I think yesterday's is much better than the previous one, I am not a professional photographer nor do I pretend to be, but little by little I am gaining experience.

However, I like your modesty, it's class apart. Since the photos are very very well done, it's my humble opinion.

The slightest movement makes macro shots pretty much useless, unless blurry is wht one is going for I suppose. I'm not very good at it, meaning I don't any work-around's in respect of getting things to come out better...I point and shoot mostly and twiddle some of the settings around pretending that I know what they do. If the shots come out I keep some, of not they get deleted. These are a few that came out ok.

I use my phone for most of the images I use on Hive and they come out good enough I guess, yours are good too. They're just there to capture attention I guess right?

Thanks for commenting.

It doesn't take much to ruin my photography, it's not that good in the first place.

I almost always get damaged on the first try and more so if I do it while walking the dog 🤣🤣🤣🤣

What do I do? Well, one hit on the cell phone and it's all fixed.

Things are not fixed like that?
Of course not
This....... to bueno

What I do is use my concentration to the max and don't let any flea interfere with me and if it does I fix it by punching it.
Like the bald guy with the cape

The pictures are nice especially those daisies is top

Mobile phones generally make photography quite easy as they do everything for the person, these were taken using a camera though, the macro lens is better to work with for the look I wanted.

Thanks for commenting, I appreciate it.

Those are beautiful pictures plus amazing experiences. I learnt one thing through your experience with the wind, though, that one shouldn't give up easy but when it circumstances seems unbearable one should look for alternative.

I guess the first photo it's one of the flowers outside, and it's the one that i like the most: it looks so delicate, natural and intense at the same time because of the shades of... I think some kind of purple. Thanks for sharing them! I look foward to see more of them, specially if they're wildflowers.

They were all taken inside as described in the text, no outside photography was possible as the wind came up and everything was moving too much.

Thanks for your choice, I like that one too. I grow these flowers in my garden, they're not wildflowers although they can be found all around where I live in people's gardens and also growing in public spaces.

Thanks for your comment.

I'm lying if I say I didn't expect to see flowers, I love them!

It's a very simple flower and so beautiful!

The wind is the enemy of photographers hahaha, but still the first one is beautiful and the kitchen turntable you chose is soft with those veins, and the pictures are excellent.

My issues with photography? hahaha the light .... I still take pictures with my phone, so I like it better when it's sunny, they look spectacular, or even when there are few clouds.

The wind... it bothers me, but I don't give up, no, no, no, no, I wait for the right moment and take the picture and if not... I come back the next day, the wind won't beat me.

Great composition, thanks Galen!

I've got some others I'll use in a post here and there and was pretty happy with most of what I shot on the day. I managed to get a few outside also, but not the shots I was hoping to get which is sad as I'll have to wait until those plants bloom again. It's all part of it though, nature does what it does, the wind and all, and we have to adapt.

Your photos always seem to come out well, so whatever you're doing keep doing that. ✅

It helps me to have gone to drawing and painting for 11 years, lights and shadows. If the photo comes out wrong I don't publish it, I just focus and shoot it hahahaha

Even though my phone is old it takes great pictures, then it has a brightness contrast button and that's it.

Ah! a few days ago was my cat's birthday .... I'll bring him back and on Friday of catalina .... he won't let me take pictures.

I'll be waiting for those shots, nature is capricious but beautiful! Revelde I like it haha

Thanks mate, I appreciate that.

I was taking the snaps and thinking what a waste of nice colouring and patterns on the back of the flower so turned it over. I have some others I'll use over time as well. That's the think about nature I guess, there's value everywhere, we just have to be open to it.

person-operated-table-sitting-food-holding-turny-thingy

Yeah, that's exactly what I call them too, I don't have one but my mum does in Ireland. I did shorten it down to the "turny thing" though.
Nice photos you got using it. Now it could even be called, "the photo aiding, turny thingy", as well xxxx

That's exactly true! I'm not the quitting type and as I'm reasonably time poor I have to make the most of the time I set aside for things, so not getting any photos was not an option. This was a reasonable solution I guess, although it meant cutting a bit off the plant which wasn't ideal.

Thanks for your comment.

My biggest issue with macro photos is usually lighting. It is often so dark that I need to keep the camera/phone totally still. Which is difficult for me, so the pics usually turn out blurry. The worst part is I don't usually notice it until much later. Like when I am going to use it in a post.

I use a tripod and the timer so I'm not actually touching the camera when the it fires. I set up the shot and have the timer set for two seconds, press the shutter release and stand back for the magic to happen. That's part of my problem with the breeze...the two second delay. Perfectly still and then... not when the shutter releases. I also take a lot of shots to end up with only a few. I enjoy the process though.

Ah, I gotcha. I remember when I was a kid my dad used to have all kinds of buttons that he could hook to the shutter on his camera for like family photos and stuff. He had one with a really long cord and a air bulb on one end. These days you can just remotely control the cameras with your phone!

I love my camera, but its inability to accept a remote shutter release is a downfall.

I've always liked your photos. The colors and compositions are always lovely. Your garden must be something too - do you ever post shots of the whole thing, or larger parts of it than just bouquets or single flowers? And what is the flower in this post? That blue-purple is dreamy.

Thanks, I try to do my best with the limited skills I have.

No, I'll never share a shot of the entire thing, or large sections of my garden, it feels too personal for a space like this. I'm very selective about who I allow to come here and whilst there's people here I'd love to show it to, there's people who also don't deserve to see it.

The flowers are daisies, I don't know exactly the variety off hand, I'd have to look it up. I think, Soprano White is what it's called though. It's quite nice, and especially so when the centre is ringed with golden pollen.

Ah. I hadn't ever seen a larger shot, but I wasn't sure you hadn't posted one. I can understand not showing it. This adds to your mystique. I don't know why, but your deep affinity with flowers still surprises me.

Showing my garden will mean showing my house and it's not something I'm keen to do.

I like all nature, I have an affinity with it and those who know me well understand it I guess; it's easy to judge through some posts, many have done it. I had someone say they don't come to my feed because all they see is gun posts...Hmm, ok well my feed is there to see...show them all to me. It was a judgment and indicated to me that they never come to my feed anyway. They lost my 100% auto upvote within seconds...and my respect also, the latter is difficult to win back (nigh on impossible).

Anyway, there's many different parts of me and I like that about me...One of those parts is not the need to share everything like people seem so intent on doing these days. I've always enjoyed peeling back layers of people, one of the reasons I love history, and I allow others to do the same with me at times.

Hm. For a while there, you posted more regularly about guns, but far from exclusively, I think. I remember asking you some questions about guns. This could be why I am surprised about the flowers, every time, even though you post even more regularly about flowers now. Nature and guns I can see going together, but cultivated flowers? I hope you didn't stop posting about firearms because of that wayward comment - it seems to have been a while, although I don't read everything you post. I liked your posts about guns, even though they were way over my head in content. I just signed up for a gun class today, Taught by a man and his champion wife who both garden. Hm. Oh those stereotypes!

0

avatar

Yeah, stereotyping can be like trying to walk on quicksand.

You know, most people here in my real world don't know my past, that I shoot and own guns and so on. It's not something one goes around saying I guess...Not me anyway.

I do a lot of things I don't talk about here, gardening was one of them actually, until I decided to open that up a little; There's other things...I have a music post coming up about my musical journey through life, the instruments I play, and all...another thing I haven't spoken about much. There's many elements of me, some none here will ever know.

as for the gun posts, yeah I love writing them, the technical ones, but I don't much anymore. I guess; maybe I'll write a couple just for fun. I didn't stop because of that person, I'm not that way inclined, I've just not done so for a while because...well, I don't really know why.

Good luck with your lessons; it's good to know what's up when it comes to firearms, with what may come...well, one never knows huh?

For not knowing about photos I think they look great, my favorite is the last one.

I don't know much either, I just know that I love the process and I lose track of time as the light changes and I pull the trigger.

I guess the photo not being interesting is what turns me off, I like that there is always something striking, some shape, texture, color, I don't know. I guess as I continue on this path I will clarify my ideas :)

Thank you, I try to make them interesting and as good in quality as I can get. You talk about photos being uninteresting and I agree, many can be, and I try to compose mine well, as well as I know how. I don't edit them so they have to come out well first time, straight off the camera.

I agree with you on the light changing situation, the process of taking photos...I find it relaxing and enjoyable, when it's not frustrating, and that's a good situation I think.

I like your flowers with the blue/purple centers and the last shot looks like they are purple on the underneath. How fun ! Your phots look good to me. That wind! Always the jokester !

The first turntable thing we ever had when I was growing up, we called a Lazy Susan ! I don't know why. It could have been a name some brand gave theirs. It worked out well in the center of our big table as our family of 7 shared the different bowls of food. Of course you could hand each thing all around before the Lazy Susan showed up, but it really worked out well for us.

I wanted to show the underneath of the flowers as they were pretty interesting...it's worth looking at stuff a little differently I guess, especially with nature, as there's interest everywhere.

Bloody wind huh? It never knows when not to visit; didn't it know I was taking photos?!

Yes, lazy susan is what its called here too, I just didn't want to say it in case it was an Australian thing and by saying it I might be confirming my nutbagginess to all and sundry. I don't know it was called that, but the work-ethic of Susan's the world over must have been called into question once the product was released.

The only problem I may have in taking pictures is myself. The photos I like to take are on the street and I've been having serious problems going outside for a while now. I've been improving a bit, but I'm still not 100%.
So I take advantage when I go to some specific job, that I am taken to, to do some pictures.
This coming week I want to go out a little more, because I have something in mind and I would like to finish it.

😂

You have every witticism! Missing sploosh tags hahahaha ... I look forward to references in future posts hahahaha

Yes and no... about the safety perspective. I was a bit agoraphobic after the Pandemic. And there's another thing... Transport is horrible. I'm not meant to have people on top of me with their smells and other stuff. I'm a bit of a Sheldon Cooper in that sense... 😶‍🌫️🙄

On the other hand, I feel that I waste time waiting at a stop, time that could be spent on something useful. Already after so much work to get somewhere, one loses enthusiasm.... In general, I am a very positive person. This has helped me all my life, but the situation has become exhausting. .... I have more to say but this is going to turn into ranting and complaining.

I understand what you're saying, I avoid people where possible too. I hate public transport and thankfully never use it, and try not to go to crowded places like shopping malls unless I really have to. I get it. The time factor too...I don't have time to stand around waiting for buses and trains.

The Sheldon Cooper comment made me laugh, I'm surprised you have that show actually. It's funny. I think the COVID thing made many people reevaluate their health in respect of their proximity to others and for good reason I suppose.

Hmm, maybe instead of a rant comment you should do a rant post. Lol.

Hello mate.
I never saw you missed a day on hive so I was a bit worried if everything is ok on your side. Well you are back. Good thing.

And these photos are really good. I mean really really good. You brought them inside the house to take your shots, I liked the idea.

If we talk about me, I am not a good photographer but whenever I want to take some shots,I just have to take them. No matter it is wind, rain or even a tornado. I just have to take my shots. And I do take good ones.

I never saw you missed a day on hive so I was a bit worried if everything is ok on your side.

I miss a day or so now and then, something happened and so I had to miss a few days; I didn't die though.

I think Hive has made me better at taking photos and it can do the same for all of us I guess. When I look at some of the shots I took overseas now I think, what the fuck was I thinking! Photography wasn't on my radar back then I guess, now I care about it a little more.

I really like that first photo. The level of detail is wonderful. I can see that being used as a cover of a photo album, or as a background. I don't usually shoot photos, and when I do, I'm not too concerned about perfection. As long as they're not blurry, I'm good. I am amazed by these pictures, and would probably learn how to do something similar if I had the time.

Being unconcerned with perfection is a good thing, it doesn't exist anyway and is a fools errand.

I had something way cooler planned for this shoot but the wind played it's hand; the good thing is I can do that other plan at some point in the future; if it works out I'll show, if not, then not. Thanks for commenting, I appreciate it.
