Sneaky and through the glass

I had a complicated day today, a Sunday that I'd rather have gone a completely different way. It wasn't bad or a day I'd prefer to forget...it just rolled out a little wobbly and out of shape for various reasons.
I'd planned to spend most of the day researching some things for a thing that's coming up on Wednesday but because life can be complicated and disrespectful of the best laid plans people make I spent absolutely no time researching anything at all. I got into the latter part of the afternoon and didn't feel like researching at all by then (thanks wobbly Sunday) so I ended up having a sneaky play-around with the camera to see what I could get.

I plucked some lavender and a few jonquil flowers from my garden and grabbed a glass cube I re-discovered a little while ago - where the globe of the world that's supposed to sit on it is I do not know - and thought I'd see what I could create by combining the two; flowers and glass cube.
I didn't take many shots today and most of what I took came out bloody terrible, but I managed to get these four and despite being somewhat good-challenged I thought they might be decent enough to share on a post. I was really just experimenting with the cube, was hoping to get some nice light refraction and to learn how focusing the camera through it would look but the light refraction wasn't quite as spectacular as my mind had imagined it. I managed to learn some things though and actually got some good ideas for later down the track. Anyway, here's the shots.

I enjoyed this sneaky photo shoot, I really wasn't in the mood to do that research after the wobbliness that Sunday presented to me and, even though I'm not all that satisfied with these shots, they're passable and the learning experience was worth the effort.
If you've got any comments, don't hesitate to leave them and any tips on shooting through a block of glass will be welcome too.

Every image in this post is my own.
Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III was used to capture these images.
I don't have any photography tips though but I definitely have something to say.
The shots looks cool to me but since you have a bigger expectation, you will want to do more with it.
This reminds me of the lemon and berry shots the other day and just like today, there is always a lesson to learn and that's definitely the only way to get better at something.
Some days don't go as planned but it didn't just pass, the shots are beautiful especially the white flowers.
Thanks mate, they're ok for sure, I just had it in mind that they'd be better. I guess I should curb my imagination somewhat. Learning is good though, it'll mean better shots, possibly, next time. :)
I agree with you on that, there is always a room for improvement no matter how good the results of our efforts comes.
I would love to keep imagining bigger thing because that fuel creativity and the desire for bigger result.
How are you feeling today, sire?
I'm good man, like usual, I can't complain really. I have had to adjust the start of the week to do that research I mentioned but I'll get it done.
Have a good Sunday.
Those shots didn't turn out bad at all. They are clean and focused on the subjects well. Hope you get over the wobbles soon and are able to get your research done before Wednesday.
I'm not wobbly, Sunday is...I had it in my mind to choke it out but how does one do that with a day? A sneaky photo session was the key though. I also just made and ate a legit dinner...now...thinking I should have done some of that research but I can see to that on Monday and Tuesday I guess...as long as I'm gtg for Wednesday.
have a good day man, hope you're well.
Oh, sorry, misunderstood. Glad to hear it is the day and not you then. For sure, you have plenty of time for the research.
You have a good one too. Yes, I am doing well, thanks for asking. Just another rainy ass day here.
I just had some stuff happen that needed attention and that ruined my plans for the day. The research will get done, it's technical stuff about something I know well, just some things that are a little new to me. I'll get it done mate.
Raining there? It wasn't here today, but is pretty cold by our standards, 10C.
Anyway, take it easy, find something enjoyable to do.

You are very demanding. I liked them. The first two are much nicer
Really? I like the second two better.
Of course, I lean more towards white, which is psychology, innocence, reflection. You lean towards purple which is madness, wisdom, mystery. You are not innocent hehehe, it's a joke.
You're right, I'm not innocent, but then, is any human?
Only when you are a child, otherwise not. I made the clarification, it's a joke
I know it was a joke.
OK
Interesting shots and very original. Through a cube you can see life, just like those flowers, depending on the cube and who is looking at it, you will see different things. That's what I was thinking when I was looking at the pictures.
I particularly liked 1 and 3, because there is a circle in focus and the rest is out of focus. Very nice.
Tip... I don't know much about photography, but I know a lot about drawing and painting. You could add some light from an angle to see how that cube and the flowers react. Like a laser.
I know you will do the research, there are just days when you just can't do it for different reasons, things that happen or the mood is not right.
Have a great week and all goes well!
Greetings Galen.
I had thought to add some light to the cube but didn't have the right light. I work with what I have mostly, rather than rushing out to buy things but I plan to see if I can get some light refraction happening. Have a good week, catch you soon.
I'm sure you'll come up with something, you have a great imagination, this time I was surprised, I didn't expect the cube.... very good idea!
Have a great week Galen.
Maybe I'll do some self-nudes next.
🤣
(No, I actually won't.)
You made me laugh!!!! I said to myself... what?
Flower nudes, those could be the ones.🤣
G-dog nudes might get more of a reaction though.
Not going to happen however.
Surely and many reactions....
Artistic version...
No, better not.... 🤣
Your photography skill is impressive and as expected 4 shots are really beautiful and cool.
If I were in your place it would be hard for me to capture shots like you. I feel you are professional in photography.
Although 4 shots are good but the second one is the most beautiful one in my eyes. I downloaded it. I want keep it in my gallery. I hope you didn't mind 🙂.
Well, I don't think you care if I mind considering you downloaded it before you asked if I mind.
Sorry for not asking. I deleted it. Now I am asking you again. Will you mind If I download the second picture you shared here? 🙂.
I'd prefer that you didn't. If you want to enjoy it you can return to my post as often as you like.
Ok. That's a good idea. I can visit your post anytime🙂.
Sorry for my mistakes ☹️.
Hmm...I wonder what would happen if there were droplets of water on the prism and shots are taken. Considering that water and glass have different refractive indexes, maybe something cool could happen. But then again, it may just be some mess in the end.
I hope dawn comes with better energy for you. And you lock in soon enough to do that research.
It's something to think about, I'm not sure I have the right light to make that work but I might give it a try.
I'm sorry to read about the wobbly day 😔 I think that all things considered, your photos came out great, although I am not a mind reader so I can't compare them to what you had imagined before hand. Keen to see what the next round brings.
Hopefully you can get that research done today or tomorrow and smash Wednesday right out of the park.
In my head they came out way better and I won a Pulitzer prize for photographicking, and embarked on a keynote speaking tour of the known universe and had a personal assistant who made all my phone calls and picked out the blue jelly beans from the bowl in my hotel rooms as she knows I don't like them. I had a personal stylist who knows I love camouflage, and earthy tones and a food taster, plus a valet and someone to separate my hot food from touching my cold food on my dinner plate so I didn't have to bother with such a menial task.
Alas...none of that came to pass.
Fucking hell Galen, your expectations sometimes 🤣 Although I do agree on the blue jelly beans!
I know you were joking btw.
I was joking about everything except the blue jelly beans...and maybe the food taster.
Lol. Of all the things I could imagine wanting, a food taster never came up on my list 😂
One has never lived until one has had one's own food taster...and referred to oneself as one.
Hahaha you and the third person - cracks me up 😂
Well, nobody likes a wobbly Sunday, or any day for that matter. The rules are to work first, then play second. Or you may just become the world's best procrastinator. I know! I'm tough. But you aren't going to suffer any big consequences, you probably already did it.
I like what you have done here and it doesn't hurt that you aren't afraid to take chances or explore different poses, not just the normal ones. That is the thing I like about glass or magnifying glasses too. They encourage you to play with them, and doing so can bring out some visual surprises. The extra layer between the flowers and camera cuts down on the light that reaches the sensor, but, you seem to correct that already.
I know you are having fun with these photo sessions. I change the depth of field (DOF) which can create a really beautiful abstract, one of my favorite things to do. Then when I have done that, I might make a copy of it in mono. Sometimes a real winner.
I like the second and third best, although the first one is pretty cool. For the second one, I wanted to move the flower right just a millifraction... no, it's not a word, but, this way you will know I mean, just the smallest amount. This was even fun to look at, even though I didn't get to play any. This little piece of glass is fun to play with. I hope you are having fun with it and don't get too wound up in perfection. That will take the thrill out of it.
And I know what a thrill-seeker you are.
Hope you are feeling fat and happy (you know that only means good, right?) and all is going well today.
Hi, Galen!
The work will get done today Denise, it's something I want to do, as well as need, and depending on how things go will pay dividends, but only time will tell. Yesterday was a bit shit really, just one of those days where things got messed up and didn't go to plan and it was a little annoying, but it happens I guess; we just have to deal with it.
These shots were more about me playing around that gatting anything really worthwhile, a learning experience. I wanted to focus in something other than the rest of the wobby Sunday too. It worked.
I'll play around with some ideas that came out if the shoot and see what else I can make happen in time. You'll have to excuse that things aren't lined up or where they should be, I'm not all that good at this so my brain doesn't do things the right way mostly. It does otter things right though. Thanks for the tips though.
I hope you had a good weekend and your week starts well when it arrives.
Well, I won't hold it against you, but you are plenty good at what you don't know. How annoying, Galen. :) I know you were only fooling around which makes it a no-brainer that you will shine even brighter when you actually try.
I do know you will get it done, you are pretty much a no-fail on that front. I hope that things went better today!
I'll be thinking of you, hoping you have a great week!

Pretty cool idea for some photos man, they worked out well. Hopefully you're plans for Wednesday got sorted in the end or they get sorted soon. Life can throw a few wobblers here and there, but you are well rounded and well able to rebalance, refocus and get things on an even keel again 👌
I'm always looking for something different, I enjoy the process of experimentation. These didn't come out too badly and I've got some ideas for more which came out of having done this shoot.
what an awesome glass to zoom :D, by the way, could you review my last post that is muted in weekend experiencies? i have change all and i left it in english only
I reviewed it, voted it and sent it to curangel. Thanks for editing it. Please read the community rules if you haven't already.
Though experimental, but those photos turn out great! 😍
Again I shall heed your advice on taking more photos and have them shared along with my post like what you did!
Hope you somehow managed to accomplish what you intended to do on Sunday! 😅
People want to present their posts well, I get it. I just see more value in showing some personality and that means good text and one's own photos. I find posts with stock images uninteresting so I rarely vote on them. Passion, personality and effort are the things I reward.
Sure thing, fully understand what you're saying! 👍
After digging through my photo gallery, I am excited to get started on my next post 😁
Great shots. Here and the other photo post you did before this one. The shots in that post are just lovely. Flowers can be a good subject and you do well using them. I can imagine having a lavender patch right outside your office window would be very calming to look at.
All these photos in this post are great too, especially that second one. You nailed the focus and I love the framing. WIth the cube in the center, but the flowers slightly off-center but still perfectly in focus. That one is really masterful.
My only suggestion is you might open up the lens just a little more. Was this at 1.8? Looks like a very narrow aperture. I might play around to get both flowers in focus. But that's just a suggestion to play with—as is, it's very nice!
I'm pretty content with my lavender patch and the picture window that looks over it...I wonder how I ever get any work done.
Thanks for your comments on my post...I'm going to use this cube again and see if I can get something better. I don't like what the aperture was to be honest, I twiddle dials and hope for the best. Play around with it I guess I mean, and I don't take note of settings.
