Queen

I've been listening to a lot of music because I've been in a vehicle driving a lot; I usually make work phone calls and listen to podcasts but there was many hours in which I decided to give myself a little break and listen to music instead - sure, it was interrupted by work calls but I managed to get a lot of time to listen to music and delved into some playlists I've not listened to for some time.
I have a very broad musical interest and like most people what I listen to is a mood thing. Sometimes though, I hear a track in a mix-playlist and latch onto it which takes me over to the artists' playlist and I'll listen to it exclusively for a time which is what I've done over the last week or so. This weekend I'm sharing one of those artists.
I've always liked Queen as a band although I think they're one of those artists that a person either likes or does not, and many do not; it's ok, people can have their own opinions and should. I think their front man, Freddie Mercury was an incredible singer and performer and the band itself pushed many boundaries and crossed some too, but I like the music and happily listen to their tracks from time to time.
(This post is for the #saturdayselections concept - sharing music in the WEEKEND EXPERIENCES community on Saturdays.)

Well, I absolutely love Queen!!! All their songs, plus Freddy was a master in his professional career, singing until the very end, with his last breath. His lyrics are exemplary and convey messages. A voice like no other, a genius. What a great selection, it gave me goosebumps, the last song always does. Thank you!
He was a great loss to the music world but he lived well, his own way, and made an indelible mark upon the industry and many people's lives.
As you always say, he designed his life as he saw fit and was and will continue to be a musical great. I have always liked him and always will.
It is known that Freddie Mercury is a master of music. There is no debate about it. Two of his songs listened by me often at a time. My love is Dangerous and Made In Heaven are those two songs. We are the champions song released by Queen Music band is still renewed many memories of sports champions and a popular song around the world.
A great artist, gone too soon. I guess in the end his lifestyle killed him but he did what he loved and made a life around it so power to him.
Have you seen the movie Bohemian Rhapsody?
Rami Malek portrayed him brilliantly.
I was a little too young to follow his work, but in later years I joined the group that likes his tracks 🙂
Do you sing on those long drives? I wake up like that 🙂
I have, twice. He did a good job and I thought the movie was generally good overall.
As for singing, I've been known to do so but I'm an amazingly bad singer. 😶
What do you care, if you love, you sing for your soul.
I'm fine in the car/bathroom, when I'm alone, and I've never tried to sing in front of an audience, so I don't know how bad I am 😀
I was on the Eurovision contest once, represented Australia. Came second.
Switching from calls and podcasts to pure music on long drives hits different, it clears the mental clutter fast. From that trio, Who Wants to Live Forever still floors me every time, and We Will Rock You has me tapping the wheel like a metronome the car probably hates. I get the love or leave it vibe with Queen, but the range they packed into a single album keeps me coming back. Got a favorite non-single or live version you think flies under the radar?
A good band and we'll worth a listen. One of their songs I like a lot is, Don't stop me now. Great song.
Hard to beat that rush, it’s like hitting turbo. Do you prefer the studio cut or those late 70s live versions where they play it faster? That piano bounce into Brian’s solo makes it impossible to sit still.
I like it all.
He was certainly a showman, if it hasn't have been for him queen wouldn't have been what they were
Yeah man, he was a born performer. A loss when he checked out but he left a legacy.
Yeah, some people are just born with that extra madness that makes them special. He definitely had that!
It must have felt so strange to have been rocketed into fame like that; it's not normal and probably understandable that some don't handle the fame well.
You and me though, we'd do it right...fucking up hotel rooms, groupies, biting heads off canaries on stage and all. One must rock and roll the right way...like a Titan.
It's in our blood! There isn't a canary alive that wouldn't tremble at the sound of our Titanic majesty! 😀😀
I mean, people may see it as quite wrong, but canary necks can be quite tough, and then there's all those feathers that could end up tickling one's nose as one is biting...it's quite a hazardous thing to do really, only experienced rock stars should ever attempt it.
Exactly. Many a canary biting has gone horribly wrong in the wrong mouths.
It needs grit and determination and no small amount of luck to bite through the yellow hordes successfully
You know how those weirdos want to save the world by having humans consume bugs? Well, a better option would be canaries. So nutritious. But as you point out, quite perilous to bite into, not for the faint hearted.
You know who was really good at it? Sandor Clegane, the hound. Quite the canary biter so the legend goes.
I'm not a fan of Queen, not because of anything negative, but because I didn't grow up listening to them. In the town where I grew up, we were more influenced by Colombian music.
I remember a very funny anecdote. When I was about 28, I moved to the capital of my country, and there was a very rock ‘n’ roll atmosphere among young people. I started dating a guy, and one day he was listening to rock music in his car and asked me if I liked Queen. As I've always been direct, I told him I didn't know who they were.
I remember the look of astonishment on his face and his question: “How can you not know Queen? Have you been in prison all this time?!” It was funny to see his face!
Of course, he then told me who they were, and that's when I started to get to know their music. Although I didn't get hooked on them, I must admit that there are songs that I like.
I can't recall ever hearing Colombian music, not something one is likely to hear in Australia I guess. I'm sure I've heard some in a movie or something but I probably wouldn't know it if I heard it. I know Queen though, and like their sound.
It's ok to like or not like different music, it's a free choice and if we all liked the same things the world would be a boring place.
I completely agree, diversity is a good thing!
This thing happens most of the time; one will listen to a particular music and if the track interests him, he will definitely check on the artist playlist. I do that a lot and sometimes leave a particular track on replay.
Indeed.
I love "Don't Stop Me Now". I remember driving back from Melbourne, passing through Murray bridge, and getting onto the expressway, and the signs on the highway "No Stopping" flew by at the same frequency as the repeated lyrics.
It really made me feel, and think that someone had engineered that outcome. I often wonder if any one else has had that experience, too.
Have you seen the Queen movie?
Yeah, one of my faves from the band.
I've seen the movie and thought it was pretty good; I'm sure the critics will have their own opinions but I never listen to what others say when it comes to deciding what I like or not.
I thought it was pretty good as well. Quali should be better right now though :) Don't expect more replies from me tonight, closing the laptop lid to watch the screen and hope there's no red flags :D
Yeah, I'm watching too.
So I fell asleep and I'm going to have to watch it again later today before the race, no spoilers, pls :P
Haha, it was interesting.
Count me in as a Queen fan.
Having music going in the car is a wonderful way to pass the time while traveling. I never had the access to listen to podcasts and the such in my car, so it's always been music. Now I don't travel that much though, so I listen to the radio on my small excursions to Mom's and around town. Still, I will hear a song from an artist that I have forgotten about for a while and make note for later. When I get home or when I am working next, I will tell Alexa to play that artist for me and then I get to enjoy them all over again.
Music is such a great companion I think and having the ability to play what we want to hear and when these days is a bonus. I remember the good old days when it was only the radio in the car...although I listen to a country music digital station in my cars at times.
It's a great bonus for sure! I have gotten a lot of enjoyment out of being able to just say what I want to hear and Vwa-LA ! .... there it is, all over the house. I turned my 91 year old Mom onto it a few years ago, after I gave her an echo for Christmas. She has found that she can access so much music from different times in her past life and has really enjoyed it. I now pay for it by the year for her as part of her Christmas present. That is a gift that makes me happy to give.
Sometimes when I go for my Sunday visit, she will get me to listen to something else she has found that she enjoys and I have to pretend I like it. LOL !!!
I refuse to have Alexa in my house...although there was this girl from accounts called Alexa and...never mind.
😏
LOL... She's the only one I have to boss around and when I talk to myself out loud, I don't confess anything I ever did that was sordid.
She does have an off button.
Haha, yeah one must always have someone to boss around right? And an off button...if only everyone had one of those!
If only......
I'd turn 95% off... permanently.
Just sayin'.
That made me laugh !
😉
What a Talented Man He was...
One of the first three records I got for my 10th birthday was Queen - News of the World.

Great tracks and a great artist. Some hate Queen, I liked them as soon as I heard the band as a 13 year old.
Freddie Mercury was a great artist , it's undeniable and also a great voice... one can not like him of course but no one can't say he was great on what he did and he left the sign on music
'we will rock you' my favorite of those three
Yep, a rare talent indeed.
Queen is one of those bands I don't listen to very much, but there are moments when it just hits my mood perfectly, too.
Pretty much the same here. I like the band but it's not everyday music for me.
Freddy Mercury was a great artist, and his legacy lives on. I like listening to music when I'm doing activities. It's relaxing. Sometimes I get so focused on the song that I end up singing along and put aside what I'm doing. Even though I don't have a singing voice, I enjoy the moment.
Music and housework go well together huh?
Yes, it's a great combination, doing housework while listening to music.🎼
I think my two favorite Queen songs are Don't Stop Me Now, and Fat Bottomed Girls. He was really one of a kind!
Two crackers for sure.
Queen is almost always a good choice, for everything. And I can't think of anyone I know that didn't like Queen. Maybe not all songs, but everybody liked at least one or two or so. Or maybe I cut all those out who don't.
I remember one of those one-line-jokes - If Bohemian Rhapsody comes on and the person you're with does not start singing along, walk away. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.
It's something about that song that makes almost everybody wants to sing.
Good tunes indeed and I agree with what you said about Bohemian Rhapsody...if people don't start singing, even in their head, they might very well be dead.
