Purple and green

There's a few things I like about lavender: The scent, the purple and the green and the complexity of the inflorescences. It's a nice combination and one I like to photograph from time to time.
A few days ago I clipped some lavender from my garden with the intention of taking some shots and those you see here are the result.
The French Lavender bush these came off is right outside my home-office window and keeps me company while I work. It's been particularly wet lately but the rainfall doesn't seem so dour when I have this bush, and other plants in my garden, providing such visual beauty. If anything, the combination is better because of the rain.

I added the ribbon because I had a moment of brilliance, (yes, it happens) and I'm really pleased with how these shots turned out. I wanted to give some of them a dramatic feel hence the dark backgrounds and I think the contrast of the colour-pop on the black background is a good combination.
The shot below is a little different. It's two sprigs of lavender, one sitting on a mirror and one in the foreground blurred. The light you see is from the light-ring at the top of my light box reflecting in the frame of the mirror and I think it looked pretty good so I included it in this post.

There's something relaxing, almost peaceful about lavender for me and I really enjoy having this rather large and attractive bush right outside my home-office window. When the weather is nice I open the window up and the scent drifts in filling the room and when the weather is dim and raining the purple and green of the bush adds a nice pop of colour into my day - I'd say that's a win-win situation, wouldn't you?
Thanks for taking a look at my photos and, as always, if you have any comments leave them below, I always respond.

Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III was used to capture these images.
@generikat, you have some competition in lavender photography!
Not much competition though, I tripped over and just happened to have the camera in my hand and snapped these by accident. OK, not really.
I tried really hard to get the best shots I could. I'm happy with them, for someone who doesn't know much about photography, I mean.
Cool!
I have never seen a large lavender field, when it happens I will also try to take a couple of pictures of it. 🌿💜
I hope you do, it'll be epic!
Mate, I don't know much about lavender or photography 🤫, but I can see that the quality of each photography post is increasing day after day. You're really pushing yourself, my friend, keep going. I like this style of photo, can we call it the "@galenkp style"? 😅
Thanks mate, I appreciate it.
I (affectionately) call my style nutbagography because I'm a nutbag and have no clue what I'm doing. Every now and then I get lucky and some photos turn out ok.

Beautiful photos. I see my choice of present for you a few weeks back could not have been more perfect, ribbon and all.
Thank you and yep, a worthy present indeed. 😊
The bow was a really nice touch :D The black background really worked for the greens and purples, good choice.
Another fun idea for if you ever do this again is to have longer tails on the bow as the trailing effects can be pretty too.
I was trying to pick a favourite and I'm struggling between the cover and the two stark contrast ones.
Thanks Ry, I enjoyed this shoot and the results, that purple and green on the dark background is why.
I thought up some more ideas as I was going through the shoot that will get developed upon later down the track. That's the thing I guess, I learn more each time. Also, I like those you've pulicked as favourites too!
I like lavender flowers, they are my favorite color and I also like them for the aroma, although I think that in my country I have never seen a lavender plant, you are lucky to have a house, normally lavender is the most used scent in perfumery and cleaning products and that's why I say I like the smell, although since I've never had fresh lavender near my nose I don't know if they have the same smell, years ago a friend sent me photos of lavender fields in Germany, but then it stopped and I miss that, I think it's a kind of plant that together looks like a sea of purple and I love that.
The photos were very beautiful, congratulations, the ribbon that wraps them was a good detail that brought brightness in contrast to the darkness of the background 😊
Lavender is a lovely flower and plant, and the scent is so calming. It's one of my favourites. When I did this photo shoot I took some shots of jonquils, also from my own garden, and they're anotyer favourite. That post will come in a few days.
Just so you know, fresh lavender smells amazing and handling it means the scent transfers to the hands which is nice too. The scent of pure lavender oils are the same (similar) to the real thing, but those in cleaning products aren't a good representation.
My wish for you is that you find yourself in the middle of a field of lavender someday, I believe you will enjoy the experience. Maybe a date with a special person...a picnic. It will be a day you don't forget.
Lovely! I love the simplicity of the lavender, tempered by the softly flowing ribbon.
What a great idea to plant it right outside the window, where you can really enjoy the heavenly scent more often than not. Will you pick and dry it so that it will have an even longer life? Pops of pretty do brighten my day. It colors my world.
I like the reflective shot, it's different and draws my attention.
Thanks for sharing these shots. I think you did awesome!
Hi, Galen~! Happy July!
Thanks Denise, I really appreciate it.
It made sense to surround that window with lavender; it's a big picture window and with the lavender in front, the purpose and green, and the deeper green of the garden beyond, it like a window into a really nice scene...whether there's blue skies or rainy ones, it's a lovely aspect and is nice and calming.
I'm grateful for your kind comments and friendship, the last said just because. 🪻
A window into a really nice scene.
Sounds like an opening description of a play I might want to watch.
Writing this post has given you an air of calm. You sound at peace.
I'm grateful too. You probably already knew that. :)
I feel better, nature does that to me.
You bring the snacks, we'll watch it together. 😀
Also yes, * I did know that.* Thank you.
There's a reason why a lot of women use lavender oils and perfumes. I guess I just like it because, first off, lavender is an awesome colour. And it's usually really relaxing to the eyes.
I like the picture where the lavender just seems likes it's floating. I still wonder why you think you're a shitty photographer cause your photos always come out great. Can I save some of them? Just to admire later on?
I say it because I'm modest by nature and there's far better photographers here than me.
You can save them, I'd not like to see them used anywhere though.
Yeah, you are modest. And of course, I know not to use them anywhere.
Hope you're alright today.
All good today, went and did some stuff that was very enjoyable after a doctor's appointment and just had some penne carbonara with salmon in it with steamed green vegetables on the side for dinner. Tasty and healthy.
I hope your Saturday goes well.
Never seen one with my eyes, let alone enjoying its scent. But these damn incredible photos make me feel like I am missing something in this life.
One of the many things I always learn from you is your concept and perspective with photographs.
The Olympus is clearly amazing, but then, it'll be nothing without good eye.
The fragrance is delightful and it's a nice bush/flower to look at; all round it's legit.
The camera does an excellent job, I'm lucky to have it.
At once gentle and intense, the lavender.
Picture 3 is absolutely wonderful, they all are, but that one caught my attention. And I also liked the focus of picture 5 very much.
I have an anecdote about lavender, I always seem to have one... maybe I've lived more than 1000 years? hahaha
My great-grandfather was Italian, he emigrated to Argentina and there he married an Italian woman whose parents had also emigrated. But during his life he kept a custom that he brought from his country. He used to make a bunch of lavender, tie it with a ribbon and put it in his clothes to scent them. He kept this custom all his life until he left.
I never met him, he left in 1975 and I was born in 1978. But his stories were always in the family.
Thank you for bringing back beautiful memories Galen.
It was a wonderful session, I look at every one of them to learn. I am practicing little by little. Thank you!
I'm glad to hear my post has inapir d some nice memories and also, I like your great grandfather's style...seems like a pretty legit dude. I respect people who maintain their standards and honour their traditions.
Also, another anecdote...your user name should be @anecdoting.
Oops it tells me the user doesn't exist, I should create it, it's great!!!
I always have a story, I have been told them during my life and looked at the pictures of my ancestors and imagine those stories was very nice.
I should call myself that hahaha
There's nothing wrong with anecdotal stories, it shows experience.
Also, I taught 12 years to very old people, the amount of stories they have told me is incredible, and I loved to listen to them, they are wisdom.
Thank you!
Spending time with older people, the elderly, is a fantastic way to gain additional understanding. I did that for many years and the value was immense.
I totally agree, I have learnt a lot and I value this in life.😀
the choice of objects is extraordinary,, lavender flowers have charisma, now you choose this flower as a model in your photography, very beautiful.
Lavender surely does have charisma, one of the reasons I chose it for these photos. Thanks for you comment.
I scrolled through the pictures before reading and I was trying to work out what the ring was that the lavender in the one image is sitting on. I like the effect you captured in that one. It's got layers and depth to it.
The ribbon is the perfect final touch.
The snaps came out ok this time; Tha ks camera, you do a good job. The mirror shot was an experiment. I wanted it to go differently but this show worked out by chance so I'm happy with that.
Nice pictures! Lavender is such a great plant! Both for its looks and its scent 💜
(I think the purple of the flowers was a bit overwhelmed by the ribbon... maybe a dull silver/grey one next time?)
Lavender surely is an interesting and enjoyable plant to have around and I've got quite a bit of it in my garden.
