Never think of coffee unless you're drinking coffee

They say, "never trust coffee when you drink it with someone you trust," or is it, "never trust someone who drinks coffee but acts sususpiciously." Maybe it's, "only drink coffee with someone who likes coffee also." Nah, maybe, "never think of coffee unless you're drinking coffee."
I don't fucken know to be honest, people make this coffee thing to damned complicated.
Anyway, I've recently been thinking about coffee - and made sure I was drinking coffee on every single occasion. (And if you believe that you're fucken nuts because I don't spend that much time focused on coffee.)
Seriously though, I've been thinking about coffee and here's why.
I have a DéLonghi coffee machine that makes Nespresso coffee pods. It's a high-end one that cost me a lot of money back in 2007 but has served me well and continues to do so. It's got settings for this and that, a milk-froth-thingy, on-board water tank and all the usual bells and whistles, and it looks good. Yeah, life is fucken good...but, I've been thinking about coffee mostly while drinking my coffee and have decided I'm not altogether happy with the current situation. Don't get me wrong, the machine I have is legit and I love it but I am pretty sure I'm going to go a different way...when the current one dies.
I'm not a coffee snob, I fucken hate coffee snobs
I like good coffee for sure, (life is too short to drink shit coffee), but for me the moment or situation one is in can make bad coffee good, average coffee great and great coffee orgasmic. Ok, maybe orgasmic is a bit over the top so scratch that comment. I've had cups of instant coffee that have seemed like the best cup of coffee I've ever had - it's about the situation; if you've never had a cup of black instant coffee brewed on an open camp fire with the sun rising in a remote wilderness area as the day comes to life...well, are you really living? (A clue: No you are not!)
So, I think you get my point.
It's not about the coffee so much (for me) although coffee snobs make it about the coffee.
The beans need to be pooped out of a unicorn's asshole then individually roasted by nubile (preferably naked) nymphs with awesome boobs and then ground between those very same boobs into just the right grind before being brewed (using angels tears instead of water of course) and the cup has to be the holy grail or some such mythical (and totally un-real) receptacle (or your enemies' bleached skull). Right? Fucken coffee snobs give me the shits.
Nah, for me it's far more simple. As I said, I like good coffee but I'm not as picky as some people...so why have I decided to move in a different coffee direction?
I'm leaning more toward event coffee and being more engaged with the process.
I mean making something a little more special out of the coffee drinking moment rather thank simply making and drinking it. With my legit DéLonghi-Nespresso-pod coffee machine there's no moment - turn on, put pod in press button - that's it. I'd like to experiment with different coffee's, the grind, intensity and flavours and I like the idea, whilst more complex, of actually making the coffee from scratch so I'm going to get one of those machines that does the grinding and has a milk-steam-frother-thing and all that shit for a more cafe-style experience.
Does that mean I'm turning into a fucken coffee snob?
I'm not sure but it's possible I guess. (Don't tell anyone though.)
With more time available to me I think being more actively involved with the coffee making process, a drink I really enjoy, will bring a deeper level of satisfaction and who doesn't love the smell of coffee brewing in the early morning? (Ort anytime.)
So what do you reckon? Are you all about instant coffee and Nespresso pods, or are you a fucken coffee snob like I'm becoming perhaps? Do you prefer one of those all-in-one coffee makers that grind the beans like I'm going to get or the more manual moka pot stove-top style? I actually have a few of those moka pot things and have got some amazing results from them - it's what I (generally) use when camping actually.
Anyway, if you want to comment then go ahead...if you don't like coffee it's ok too because you're free to comment about whatever you like as well.
There's about thirteen trillion bonus points available if you can tell who the barista was trying to depict in my coffee crema above. Hint, it's someone very famous. Drop a comment with your guess for a chance to earn many bonus points or comment generally and get no bonus points at all.

Hey, snap!...are you gonna roast the beans too? From green beans? They say that's the best way to store coffee long term. I've never done, but I do have a stainless steel camp pot lol. Coffee is good no matter where or when...not up for any barista trivia, but the naked boob grinding thing would lead me to believe you were talking about your lady love.
I think if I was to roast my own beans I'd fully qualify as a coffee snob so...why the fuck not huh? 😁 (Not sure on that to be honest, no time currently.)
As for naked boob coffee grinding...I'm willing to consider all options and may even do a series of interviews for the role. (Multiple positions available.)
I'm sure you'll get many applicants, but not too sure how many will want to collect the unicorn poops lol
I'll use Oompa Loompas for unicorn poop collection, those little orange bastards love that type of work.
They don't have to bend over as far lol
That's right, occupational health and safety is paramount.
My mom brought one of those cool coffee machines on one of her recent trips, and we ended up replacing it with the old one. We buy the coffee beans from a friend and then do the rest of the process ourselves—no fancy technology involved. It feels good, although I must admit it takes more time, but it’s a routine that I, at least, enjoy. Pods make hard this routine 😅
I would love to keep reading in the future about your new coffee direction ( not a coffee snob)
It comes down to time and ease of use for a lot of people I suppose but I'm thinking I'd rather make more of an event/ritual out of it and think I'd enjoy that much more than button pressing.
I actually don't like or drink coffee at all. I like dark beers that have coffee notes, but that's about it. My dad on the other hand drinks coffee every day. He once had a cup at a truck stop somewhere in the US that he said was the best cup he has ever had and he has been trying to chase that same taste all his life.
The coffee bill in your household must be way cheap!
Non existent! :) We do buy tea occasionally.
More money for other things...taxes. Lol.
I use a Mr. Coffee drip machine I got at a garage sale, mostly because it's easier to buy pre-ground coffee. If I buy whole beans locally to support a small business, I grind them a bit coarse and use a French press. It's not a necessity for me though. I just need the beans to make the awake juice.
Any old thing will do I guess so I like your style. For years I had nothing but instant or a moka pot which did what I needed it to, there's nothing quite like simplicity right?

Although I don't drink a lot of coffee, you know I drink a lot of mate.... I must confess that my preference is instant coffee... maybe because that's what I've always had at home. Now I have an espresso machine, but I prefer instant.
My maternal grandmother used to put a teaspoon of instant coffee with a little bit of milk and beat it until it frothed, all by hand, and then she would add the rest of the milk. The best coffee I ever tasted in my life... the one my grandmother made me... the moments and the people are what matter.
I remember my brother going to meetings where there was a man who was dedicated to coffee machines and he loved those that grind coffee beans... the whole process from scratch... I love the aroma of coffee!!!!

Coffee isn't for everyone I guess but when one drinks coffee it's important to make sure it's made the way one enjoys it. There's nothing wrong with instant coffee, there's some really good ones on the market.
There are and it smells delicious! But right now I'm going to prepare mate...
I don't think I have ever heard or read any of those things XD
Also I still want to know who they are.
I don't like black coffee or camping either so I guess I'm ded x_x
Doesn't sound like you're turning into a coffee snob, maybe a barista. Is that better or worse?
Well now, they say, "never drink coffee with those whom have never heard of such sayings," but don't worry, I'd have a coffee with ya mate! 😄
Yay XD
Hi @galenkp, I'm going to waive the points and not say anything about the question, I have no idea. About the coffee, I prepare it with a metal coffee maker of all life. It didn't complicate my life too much.
And, of course, a coffee taken in good company has a special taste. Undoubtedly, everything tastes better surrounded by people who love you.
No points for you, but I'd happily have a coffee and chat with you, I might learn something.
I thought I was going to run out of points, I'm very intuitive, you know? On the second point, I'm sure the pleasure would be mutual.
I hope you have a good end of the weekend.
Unicorns be damned! Civets are the way to go. it's kopi luwak for me!:) but at $32 for 10 nespresso-type pods I have to slum it with this tasty instant I've been drinking this for the last 25 years.
Instant works fine, had many myself over the years...one only 30 minutes ago. 😊
The question is, were you aware of Civet coffee when you wrote about the unicorn poop? Are you a genius or simply well-read?
I'd heard about it back a while so used it for inspiration exchanging the civet for a unicorn because everyone knows unicorn poop is the best.
Ah! I should've known better than even to ask such a cultured gentleman!
Haha, well now, your sarcasm becomes you. ✅
I loved reading every word. It felt like a reflection of myself just several months ago.
I became a bit of a coffee snob after starting my job as a barista.
I used to just make coffee for my husband using the stovetop, but now I’ve got a little espresso machine, and I even practice latte art.
I love drinking coffee, and I love making and serving it as well. Seeing a customer smile at the little heart on their latte makes me happy.
I like it when the barista takes the time to make a heart in the coffee or some other pattern and see it as lazy when they don't but that's probably snobbish if me. Lol.
Seriously though, it shows a care factor, pride in their work and that they value the customer enough to want to give them a good experience; that's what keeps people coming back. So, well done fordoing the right thing.
Thaaaazzz Right...
I am the coffee snob of this campsite fella...
You can make me coffee anytime. I'll bring the donuts.
