Just showing, not showing off

This time of year is always enjoyable when it comes to my garden; the bulbs start coming up and I end up with flowers everywhere throughout the garden beds. It adds colour, amazing scents and a lot of happiness to winter when the weather can be otherwise cold, rainy and dour. Of course, that gives me the ability to bring some them inside as well and my house often smells like a garden of flowers.

When I started posting here on the Hive blockchain over six years ago I had to get more interested in photography as I always like to present my posts using photos I've taken myself. To me it adds character and personality, even if the photo used isn't exactly matched to the content itself, and it shows effort. The visual impact of a photograph helps grab attention and I think it's best to use my own rather than generic stock images every man and his dog can take from a stock image site.

With that purpose of use in mind I've had to take a lot of photos, something I usually only did when on holiday or at an event of some kind. I'm not that great at taking photos but am learning a thing or two and between my phone camera and actual camera have managed to take a reasonable photograph or two now and then. More importantly than that though, is my increasing enjoyment in photography.

The cool thing about getting more interested in photography is that I can combine that interest with other things I do, like gardening.

The other day I cut some double jonquils out of my garden and brought them inside. If you've smelled them for yourself you'll know how beautiful (and strong) the scent is, so my house smells good all the way through. It's nice considering the poor weather we've been having and is a nice reward for all the hard work I do in my garden.

I like posting here on Hive, sharing some of the things I do and enjoy and with my growing interest in photography I get to show off show some of my efforts in the garden to those interested enough to click into my posts. I know I'm not the best photographer out there but that seems not to matter, the enjoyment is there all the same.

I wonder if blogging on the Hive blockchain has given you the same ability to share your own interests you'd not otherwise share? If you'd like to make a comment feel free to do so below and talk about your own hobbies and interests, maybe even drop a photo of one of them. If you simply want to make a generic comment on my post then go ahead too, I always respond.

My wife and I save our photos to a shared cloud space. She will often be scrolling through and say "why did you take a picture of this". Usually, the answer is always "it was for a Hive post".

Lol, yep thanks to Hive there's probably millions more images in cloud storage around the world.

Yes, I often post my travel and kayak adventure photography here on Hive. It’s a great place to share our Hobbies, Photography and Short Films …

Kayaking is legit, I try to get out for a yak now and them too, otherwise they sit around doing nothing.

Yeah. It’s better to live right on the water. They get used a few times a day.

The jonquils look nice, but I have no idea how they smell.

I am looking forward to Spring and Summer though! And getting into my garden. As for your question, yes, I get to share my Warhammer 40k hobby on Hive. I must say that it is perhaps not the most popular of content. i can easily make more on a post when it is about gardening, DIY and often Fiction. But then that in itself is good too. I get rewarded then by posting about a variety of things and keeping things diverse.

I love my 40k and who knows? I might soon enough get a rip-roaring 40k community up and running on Hive! Getting rewarded for doing your HOBBY is pretty insane, lol.

Hobbies are supposed to be enjoyed and it seems you enjoy yours. I guess I don't get it when people turn this into a job, although I suppose people have their reasons. I also don't think they're as effective at it when it becomes a job, it's not as sustainable.

I have seem more people turn their passion into their job and then end up hating their passion and avoiding it.

However, I have seen some people turn their hobby passion into something that makes money for them.

Though it does not earn me a salary (just an additional income), this blogging thing is pretty much and interest and hobby of mine. So in a sense, this and anything that I happen to post on here would then become an extension of turn pleasure into profit. :D

I also like to use my own photos, now at any time and place I am like the crazy person who takes photos of everything 😁 , and they are for Hive ! Or at least with that intention. Then I'm very demanding with quality and I end up deleting more than half 😬. Beautiful flowers !!! I can already imagine that garden.

It shows so much more character and I will reward a post in which a user has used his/her own photos well before one that uses stock images - It's actually rare I'll reward a post with stock images to be honest.

Taking loads of photos isn't an issue in the digital photo era...back a while when photos had to be processed and put on paper, at a cost I think people were a little more limited to how many they take. I'm glads you use your own photos, well done, and you obviously like taking the images which is also good.

Thanks for your comments on my post and photos.

These images are so fine, I also love using my images on my post but my phone camera is awful, haha maybe when I change it, I'll then master my photography skill.

I think the equipment makes a huge difference. I'm not a good photographer at all, I just spent a little money on a good kit...The camera does all the work, I just hold it. Keep at it, you'll improve.

Yeah, good equipment makes all the difference and does all the work and then I notice that beautiful pictures also attract readers haha.

They surely wanna check what you have up there.

I notice that beautiful pictures also attract readers

It does for sure...but when I see stock images I don't vote, I hate seeing people use them on their posts and would rather see people use their own, even if they're not as good. It shows character.

I'll try to use my picture for your prompt henceforth even if my camera isn't that good. I hope you manage the poor quality.😅

I appreciate that, I'm going to begin enforcing it and muting those who don't anyway. I'm not sure when that will happen, but soon.

Ay Galenkp and don't you sometimes get blocked? Because I'm blocked, I can't write a line since I came back to my home. Sometimes I'm afraid that the words won't come out. Pictures... It's definitely better to use our own even if they have nothing to do with the text. I like that idea. Irreverence has always been applauded after the irreverent one gets the lashes. Hahaha... Am I getting inspired? Do you want a picture?

Hey there, I hope you're well.

No, not really. I mean, there's times I sometimes can't write what I want to, but I don't have trouble writing, I just pivot to something else. I wrote a fiction today, I'm not sure when I'll use it, but it was a little difficult. I just stopped, went and wrote something else, and came back to it later and it worked out.

Sometimes I'm afraid that the words won't come out

I get it. When that happens I just start writing, anything at all, and the words make their way onto the page.

Am I getting inspired?

#splooshspired you mean.

Do you want a picture?

The answer to this is, always.

😂 gracias por hacerme reír.

I will do that, but the blocking happens because there is a lot inside and a lot of desire to say it, but in a special way.

Photo (a late-night present for you) by the way, your photos are very good, I told you so.

I understand, and feel there will be a right time and manner for it to come out.

That photo is now? Looks warm and sunny. I love that lantern and the license plate...(I love old things.) Thanks for the snap, and the comments about my photos, I appreciate that.

Hive blockchain has changed me alot in a little time. It is a whole new world.

Everywhere I go now, I take pictures, because later on I share everything here. Hive block chain has become my life dairy in which I mention imp moments of my life, my daily thoughts, and really enjoy being on hive.

You and many others I guess. All the smart people are out there looking for photo opportunities and I always look for posts that have author-taken images and vote them more highly. I rarely vote posts with stock images.

I always work hard and use my own pictures in every post I do. Very rare, I use stock images, and if they are not mine, I mention the source under them.

The garden is blooming man, happy days. I've a fair amount planted around my house too, but loads more to do. I want to have colour and something blooming year round if possible.

You're photos are always really good in my opinion, you certainly have a flair for it and a good understanding of light and it's importance in getting good shots it seems.

(Edited)

People get too hung up on good/great photos and so I see a lot of stock images being used. I think people also make the mistake of thinking the image has to exactly match the content of the post. I mean, if it's a post entitled MY trip to Paris, don't put photos of Australia on there, but the image doesn't always need to align perfectly with the text.

I'm more focused on using my own photos and will generally not vote on posts that use stock images, it shows zero character. But yes, I think images are good to use and they should be interesting...and not always fucken selfies which are not.

The garden is booming man, my vegetables, the flowers, fruit trees...it's legit. It's good to hear yours are too. (Just to show off a little...here's one of my cauliflowers of which I'm proud of.)

Edit: Sorry, forgot to say thanks for your compliments. I appreciate that.

Ohhhhhhhhhhh, that Cauliflower looks like it's going to be well tasty, love cauliflower with cheese..

I used to use stock photos from Pixabay back in the day, but very rarely do these days, I'd say I use 95%+ of my own images and as you say it shows more character and effort than lifting a photo that will probably be used on tonnes of other posts as well..

Hmm, since you said that your garden is always beautiful especially when it comwsbto this time of the year, I am thinking that it may just be as beautiful as paradise...lol

I’ve always been interested in finance. And just recently financial tech. I am glad that hive blogging allowed me to write and share my thoughts regarding this subjects and find like minded people in the platform. I have good friends but only a few who is truly interested to listen to me when i talk about this. Hahaha.

There's many like you here, those who like to talk about crypto, Splinterlands and all of that. I tend to get bored with it so don't generally read it or vote it though, I'm more interested in the more personal nature of people, their experiences and thoughts on life and other things There's so much of that other stuff, just recycled over and over, and they all tend to look the same to me. That's not to say I'm not interested in finance and crypto, but what shit coin has risen by 0.000005 of a cent holds zero interest to me and I don't need BTC updates third, forth and fifth hand passed from person to person when I can get it directly from the source.

What beautiful flowers, they are gorgeous and their scent must be intense and intoxicate the whole home. How delicious!

Aesthetically those double jonquils are ideal for photography, you take excellent pictures and I love that you show these beauties of your garden.

You can brag all you want, you are right to do so. I admire and enjoy it.

Yes, there is an interest that if it hadn't been for Hive I wouldn't have spread, which is the photography of places, of my walks, of nature, of history, of art, I didn't do that before and Hive gave me that possibility, as well as writing.

I love writing and reflecting on different subjects, giving my opinion and my thoughts, which is who I am. And I thank Hive and the beautiful communities that allow me to do that.

Thank you always Galen! Thank you so much! Great teacher by example.

I think it's the writing that keeps me interested; I could do what others do, drop images, but I enjoy the challenge of writing and like creating something I can look at later and feel content with. I wrote a fiction yesterday, sharpened it today and will post it sometime, not sure when...things like tlgive me enjoyment and I'd miss that if I was just dropping images.

Thanks for your comments on my photos, I'm not into bragging, but I like to get a favourable comment now and then.

And I love the pictures of both the landscapes and the flowers, they are beautiful!

Yes writing is something one can improve and improve. I wrote some stories in a science fiction community a few months ago, I love it!

I'll be waiting for it, of that you have no doubt, one is always enriched by the work of the other.

Most of my images in my posts are phone photos...not those in my photographylovers community posts though. (Generally.) I have a decent phone though, Samsung S22 Ultra.

I put a little effort into my photos, even those I take on my phone, and work on composition. I don't edit them, I have no clue how to use Photoshop, so I have to make them as good as I can straight out of the camera/phone.
