In between day and night

ssa.png

Stand a little less between me and the sun.

- Diogenes -

If I can be candid with you, I wanted to do a post called day, night and in between, but soon after beginning I realised there was a flaw in my great plan...I have no beach images taken in the night time, mostly because it is dark at night and I'm a shit photographer. Anyway, this post is the compromise, the in between element.

I know, it's disappointing but I assume you'll recover from your disappointment, counselling is available, just as I have (almost) recovered myself, and maybe you'll even find something of interest in this post.

One of the cool things about this beach is that is faces west so the photographs come out quite balanced. At times of the year the sun moves around on the horizon though and that's when I'm able to catch the jetty with the sun behind it as in the last image. I like the shots taken looking straight out to the ocean best though and the way the rays catch the ripples in the sand and any clouds that may be present is always pleasing to my eye.

I really love this time of the day, the in between time, and the way it separates day from night and, of course, the way it often stains the sky in beautiful colours makes for some good times; a walk on the beach with my girl-person, who patiently waits for me when I stop to take photos, can make for nice moments; it's a gap that provides some separation from our hectic lives and we enjoy those moments.

sets (2).png

Sometimes the tide goes out far enough that it leaves ponds of flat, still water as you can see in image one and two and the last image below and it's those I love the most; they're perfect to capture the reflection of the sun set on the glassy surface, if the night it still enough, and that can add to the interest of the photograph.

With the west facing orientation of this beach it's also great to get some silhouette shots which I also like. The problem is waiting for people to come along at the right moment and, fortunately, once again my girl-person waits with me rather wandering away up the beach. I never ask those people for permission to capture their image, one must sometimes take what one wants.

The first and last image in this post are from a photo-shoot I did not too long ago, and in this post are a couple I've not shown before. If you'd like to see some more from that particular walk on the beach you can see them in my post called, Another World, there's no obligation though, I'm just saying, you don't have to. Really, don't feel obligated.

Thanks for taking a look at my images and, as always, feel free to make comments below, I like to hear from people about what they like or don't like about my posts or images.

one must sometimes take what one wants.

Sometimes you waft between okay and messed up and that's a good thing. Because, I always stand by the fact that normal is boring.
The appeal in the pictures is it's delicate capturing. Right time, right place, right moment. There's not much talk to it. Just ethreal images.

Thanks for taking the time to look at my post and for your nice comments on my photos. The most enjoyable aspect of these photos was the moment I lived whilst they were being taken. Life should be lived.

Sunrise and sunset do make for some amazing colours XD not that I ever see the former unless I haven't gone to sleep yet x_x

Yep, one must rise early to see sunrises, I've always found it to be worth it though...except one time on Fraser Island, QLD. Woke super early to capture some shots and there was zero colour in the sunrise. I'm still not over it and it was years ago.

Too much blue?

Well, to be honest there wasn't really any colour at all. It just sort of got lighter and then was daylight. I was excited too, because there were some cool clouds in the sky that a little colour would have lit up well. I was disgusted, then got over it and drove my 4x4 to Lake Mcenzie and went swimming for the day. It was pretty spectacular...despite the dud sunrise.

I wish I could head to that beach and snap a few pics myself. Here on the Canadian prairies I am far far away from any ocean unfortunately. Really fantastic photos here!

It's funny...you want my beaches and I want your lakes, rivers and mountains. A clean swap? Nah, maybe we just travel back and forth and have the best of both worlds.

This is one of my favorite times of the day, the light is so expressive, giving you neither dark nor light, but twilight. So many songs and poems have been written about this time of day and I can see why.

A walk on the beach with my girl person

It is so sweet to hear you call her by a title that can only belong to one person. It sounds very innocent, but, no words are really needed.

The visuals hint at the warmth, and I will admit that between all the couples in the shots and the overall feeling of the post, it is a nice set up for the rest of the evening.

The pictures are stunning, warm and wonderful.

Hi, Galen!

It's a nice time of the day for sure and in it whatever happened seems less important and looking ahead anything seems possible.

Girl-person could also be called patient-person as she waits calmly whilst I take these snaps without complaint. Of course, she cold also be called saintly-tolerant-person for putting up with me! I don't know why she does it. Lol.

Thanks for you nice comments on my images and sharing your thoughts. It's always a pleasure.

She sounds like a thoughtful person, accommodating and saintly! Yes, that. You don't know why she does it? ;) She obviously doesn't see what you do. Check out the view she gets. It might be better than yours.

You could possibly be a good catch. ) Plus... all those legos.

You know?

Well, I'm not sure if I was ever a good catch and am pretty sure that these days I'm the one that should probably be thrown back in... fortunately girl-person doesn't think so. Hmm, maybe she just wants my Lego?

They may be older, but, they still got it. :)

Thanks for taking a look. It's amazing how different the very same beach can look depending on the time of year and environmental factors. I'm fortunate I get to spend time in places like this and that they're so close to home.

I went to the other world and it really is another world. Is it okay if I stay here instead?

Well, maybe your imaginations can carry you away from time to time instead of travelling to another world.

All of these are amazing, but the last one has a truly magical touch. Incredible work in general homie!

It's amazing what I'm capable of when I point the camera and press the shutter button. I have no clue what the other settings do so that's pretty much my whole style. Point and click. 🤣

The old fingers crossed for a good result method sometimes pays dividends.

Thanks for your comments, I appreciate it greatly.

I also !LUV the in-between time a lot. I love the in-between as night turns into day even more 😍

And your photos are not bad, Mister. Not bad at all.

We're lucky to have west-facing beaches here, although I've taken great shots from other parts of the coast that don't face due west. I just make it work, you know what us photographers are like. Geniuses. Lol.

Commenting with token calls...

I have them all muted so don't see them. (A stroke of genius on my part I'd say.)

Suspended in time, neither light nor dark, when the mind roams freeing itself of the burdens we carry around.

Stunning lighting bathes the beach, faceless folk enjoying days end.

Hmm, nah I haven't. Do you think it's worth giving it a try? I'm not much into editing photos, I actually prefer to present them straight out of the camera. I'm ok with straightening them up or cropping, bringing the contrast there and there, but that's about it. I'll have a look at it though.

I'm using it for over five years and I find it very handy. You have all sorts of presets, filters and tweaks that you can choose from.

Ah ok, maybe I'll have a look. Anything that adds time to creating photos is not something I'm that interested in though. I like taking photos, not sitting in front of a computer editing them, or even worse, on my phone.

The shots on the silhouette are perfect! The sunset looks pretty and romantic! It also signifies that a single day has ended beautifuly and a hope of another day to come. Just like sunsets, endings can be beautiful too.

Hi bro! ✌️ What you have here is quite a gem of photographs in Hive. What great shots, and incredible especially the ones that look like a mirror of the sky. I feel that to get them you spent a long time looking for the perfect moments, it was even the right time, that's passion...

A certain amount of patience is required but one can't wait too long or the sun disappears and it goes completely dark. The reflection ones are harder as I have to wait for the pools of water to be still. There's plenty of dud images, I assure you. But it's worth the bad ones to get a few good ones.

"I never ask those people for permission to capture their image, one must sometimes take what one wants."

Is it really "their image" if it has no distinguished details to prove such..?

Juss sayin'

I enjoy our virtual dream sequence walks on the beach together bro.

(I am nakid in those) 👀

I miss the beach and my 20 foot Bayliner. Those days in the past seem like a dream now. But that was another place and time thirty years ago... WoW
