One step back in time... at the Classic Cars Exhibition (9 exposed cars)
While one week ago I had the great pleasure to write about my experience attending an exhibition with plenty of motorcycles, including custom ones but also old and American bikes that are not so common in Romania, I thought this week should be about a similar experience, but with cars.
This time, the event was held still in a commercial center but a different one than the one used for the Sibiu Bike Show, which honestly, is a pretty good location to gather lots of curious ones since people are always going shopping in this location. It's also a smart way to keep the vehicles safe because there are some other locations where larger similar exhibitions are held, but which have no security at all.
Anyway, the Classic Cars Exhibition took place between 18th March and 2nd April, and happily, I got to enjoy the beautiful cars two times during this period. While I knew some of them, there were also some surprises, talking again about cars that are more famous in the United States rather than Europe, but happily, each vehicle had its own informative panel where you could find out its name and specs.
There were a total of 9 cars exposed, as follows:
1. Ford Escort XR3i Cabriolet
Personally, I'm more aware of the Ford brand by the latest models released such as Focus, Puma, Kuga, Mondeo, and so on. But the model in the picture above earned its reputation, especially during the '80s and '90s when it was a bestseller in more parts of Europe.
Being a rear-wheel drive car, Ford Escort XR3i Cabriolet also turned out as one of the best vehicles for competitions and rallies of all time.
2. BMW 320i Baur TC2
I've never been a fan of BMW cars either if we talk about the super sport models or the common models, but if I'd have to pick a favorite of this brand, would definitely be the classic models such as BMW 320i Baur TC2 just because they offer a specific vibe that, unfortunately, was lost on the way with the more modern models released.
Happily, the BMW 320i Baur TC2 model is pretty famous in Romania as many people love it and actually offered a new name to the car which is Ursuleț (EN: Teddy Bear). The 3rd series of BMW was produced between 1982 and 1994, offering four versions of the car body: sedan, station wagon, coupé, and cabriolet.
3. Chevrolet Corvette Convertible
We all have those cars that we only found out about during our gaming sessions, and the Corvette is also my case. I did know about the Chevrolet brand but never heard about the Corvette part of it until a while ago. I'm more in love with the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray model which is also the single sports car I'd love to drive one day since I've never been crazy with Lambos or those that are more popular on this field.
However, getting to see a classic Chevrolet Corvette Convertible was definitely a cool experience, especially since we are talking about the most famous American sports car that managed to prove its performance on more fields in front of European vehicles.
4. Dacia 1100
A fairly known model for the Romanians since Dacia 1100 represents the first series ever created by a Romanian brand to be addressed to the general public and it stirs lots of nostalgia for those who remember the times when seeing a Dacia going down the street was something common rather than a rare thing as it is in 2023.
If some of the people reading this post are fans of video games too and especially of PUBG, then you might remember about Dacia 1300 as well, which is another famous model of the Dacia brand that started being recognized in more countries after being introduced in PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds game.
5. Porsche 928 S4
Porsche 928 S4 was initially designed with the main purpose to replace the legendary 911 model that had begun to reach its development limits at the end of the '60s but the success that was knocking at the door releasing Porsche 928 S4 was far from being expected.
That's how in 1977, Porsche 928 S4 became the bestseller of the brand mixing the characteristics of a sports car and luxury limo through its powerful engine, nice design, comfortable seats, spacious trunk, and a lot more. Unfortunately, along with its fame, Porsche 928 S4 never managed to beat the legendary 911 model.
6. Mitsubishi Colt Galant Hardtop
Just as in the case with the cars released by BMW, I was never a fan of the Mitsubishi brand either, even if seeing different models released by the brand was quite rare in Romania. There are some more modern models that you can notice going down the streets, but those that are more popular in my head are the ones used for the rallies which happen yearly in town and do a pretty good job during the races.
However, the Mitsubishi Colt Galant Hardtop model is a bit more interesting when it comes to its name because in comparison with other models, the name Galant was inspired by the same French word that can be translated as: chivalrous, gentle, courteous, etc. Which is a pretty representative name for the beautiful-looking car.
There were released nine different generations of this model, and there were sold over five million cars.
7. Mercedes-Benz 300 D
While the BMW model presented above is rather known in Romania as Ursuleț (EN: Teddy Bear) instead by its original name, a similar situation is with the Mercedes-Benz 300 D model that also earned a new name which is Cobra.
Personally, I'd see this name more suitable for the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 due to its sign, but the name of Cobra appeared during the communist period when Nicolae Ceaușescu had an armored Mercedes-Benz 300 D car in its presidential fleet that also included the symbol of a Cobra in its design.
However, the Mercedes-Benz 300 D models only managed to be afforded by Romanians after the Revolution from 1989 when a large number of models were imported into the country.
8. MG MGA 1600

This vehicle represents one of the main surprised of the exhibition as seeing a MG MGA 1600 is definitely a very rare thing and there are not many ways to meet one other than during an exhibition or at the museum.
However, what not many people know about this model, is that it was born in Great Britain and it represented a quite famous model during the '40s because it was a cool-looking car, quite cheap, and easy to be maintained during the passage of time. It might sound funny to talk about a convertible car produced in Great Britain especially since everyone knows how rainy that part of the globe is, but the success of the car wasn't limited to the mentioned territory because lots of American soldiers posted to England literally fell in love with the current model and they offered to the MG brand a bigger profit by exporting them to the US where many people wanted to have one in their garage.
9. Lincoln Continental Town Coupé

And last but not least, actually the star of the classic cars exhibition, we had the Lincoln Continental Town Coupé which impressed me from all points of view, starting with its massive size, length, imposing look, large space both inside the car and in the trunk, but also with all the small details that could be seen from a driver's perspective.
The first ever created model of Lincoln Continental Town Coupé took place in 1938 with the main purpose of being a vacation car for the son of Henry Ford who wanted a nice looking car but still based on the Lincoln-Zephyr model while including European elements. That's how, after the Lincoln Continental Town Coupé model was released and Edsel Ford had his well-deserved vacation, he managed to stir enough curiosity and get a large amount of requests for the car, to be produced and sold to people, ending up with a model that was produced in ten generations.
Even if some of the presented models were created a lot earlier than '60s, each one of them had a bigger impact in the world between 1960-1980 when they had earn more fame out there. Personally, the Lincoln Continental Town Coupé represents my favourite out of the nine exposed cars, and I do understand why it was also picked as the car to appear on the official poster with the exhibition, but there is no doubt each car has its own charm and definitely a specific category of fans.

I have seen quite a few blogs from you about (exclusive) cars. Seems like you are really in to them, or is it your boyfriend's influence?
We both love cars and motorcycles but I tend to be more involved in such exhibitions. There is a really huge one coming up this weekend, so more content incoming, lol!
Of all the cars MG MGA 1600 is actually my favourite of all. Though they are all lovely but this particular one is spectacular.
Thanks for sharing
It was hard for me to pick my favourite between Lincoln and MG just because they are so unique in their own way. So I totally understand your pick!
