Let's travel together #345 - The Cathedral of St. Peter the Apostle (Treviso, Italy)

As I was scrolling down through the few stories left untold from my previous trips, I ran into another place we discovered on our last day in Italy before heading to the airport.
We had this trip for Venice especially, but we had our accommodation in Treviso, the city where the plane lands anyway, thinking that it deserves some exploration as well. However, we kept this activity for the last day before returning home, and thanks God, there was plenty to be seen, The Cathedral of St. Peter the Apostle being just amongst the first places that made our day better.
We were actually enjoying a simple walk in town without proper guidance when we saw this place just across the street, thinking that it was something similar to the Romanian Athenaeum we have in Bucharest, Romania, which represents a location for concerts and other events.
Based on this thought, we decided to only check it from the outside in the first place and surround it to see what else we can discover. But the imposing and beautiful facade was just the beginning to what I call a 3 in 1 experience, based on how large the building actually is and how many architectural styles it mixes all together.

At first, we were quite confused, thinking about having more buildings in the same place rather than one, but the truth is that every single part of the overall building had a very well-determined purpose, and hence the architecture that tried to stay away from the others.
In fact, what remains these days of the main part of the building is what I've shown in the first pictures, which is also known as the main place of worship in town. But what is called "Church of Saint John the Baptist" is not less impressive, the Romanesque architecture already speaking for itself.

A few more purposes that led to different architectural designs used on the construction of the building were the Museum of Sacred Art and the library, which also found themselves a place somewhere inside the walls.

Although on a quick Google search you can find information about having the building open daily between 7.30 AM to 12 PM and 3.30 PM to 6.30 PM, we were either in the little break of visit or way too unlucky to find any door open.
It's true that we couldn't see any proper road signs stating that the place can be visited either, but the fact that all doors were closed made us believe it's just one of the many historical places that can only be admired from the outside. So we only enjoyed the experience on half, but it makes us want to return one day for the sake of seeing the beautiful interior as well.
The Cathedral of St. Peter the Apostle is located in the Piazza del Duomo, 1, 31100 Treviso TV, Italy, that is the main square of Treviso and it's just 5 minutes away from the Vaporetto Stop which you can set as destination if coming from Venice with either Line 1 or Line 2.
Other places I've seen during my stay in Treviso:
- Porta San Tomaso and Ponte delle Università
- Fontana Delle Tette (Galleria della Strada Romana)
- Streets of Treviso
- Sacred Beauty: Exploring the Historic Churches of Treviso, Italy
- Palazzo dei Trecento (Treviso, Italy)
- The Cathedral of St. Peter the Apostle

Thank you for stopping by!
Amazing cathedral with those large columns, the size is impressive. There is beauty in its antiquity. I'm sure the interiors of these buildings look equally impressive. There is so much to discover within the area.
Yeah, history seems like a feeling of being at home in this part of the globe. So much to see at every corner!
It’s incredible how much history and meaning can be preserved in what remains of these ancient structures. This architecture always has this powerful, timeless beauty that words can hardly capture. It must have felt like stepping into a living piece of history.
That's exactly how it felt. So sad we couldn't make it in for even more historical awesomeness!
One of my greatest dream in life is to visit this place, this is a holy place. The roman architecture is so beautiful until now and it was good the place was properly maintained. BE SAFE there.
Indeed. Italy has a specific vibe that you can't find in other place :)
