Fading Walls, Living Stories (#18)
In the last year or even more than that, my little corner on the blockchain has hosted more posts about the street art and murals I managed to explore in the town I'm currently living, Sibiu also being home to a festival of this kind entitled Sibiu International Street Art Festival, or in short, SISAF.
When I heard about this festival, there were said that there are more than 120 murals on the walls of Sibiu, which surely caught my attention being a fan of art in many forms. Hence why, when I started chasing and tracking them down, 250 km later of walking, obviously divided into more days, resulted in not so many murals as they presented (only around 90), many of them being covered or simply faded with the passage of time.
My dedication to finding these and tracking them down didn't pass unnoticed, even by the organisers of the festival, who were surprised to see me actually take these walks and see all the murals, also promising a goodie bag at the end of my journey, after also providing them with the pictures taken.
Funny thing is that I never did this with the meaning to receive something at the end, as in fact, I was doing it for the inner artist I have in my heart, and then to share these here on the blockchain since we have a community dedicated to these. But their answers surely stir a smile on my face.
Today, being the last post of this kind at least for a while, I can also say the cons of this festival and the whole journey that seemed very colourful and beautiful from the outside. When I finished tracking down all the murals, I returned with my part towards the organisers, namely, with the pictures taken, but also the proper coordinates to locate the murals because more than half of them are not even close to the street they mention under their posts, which results in lots of frustration, confusion, and obviously waste of time. The results? A beautiful "Seen" under my message, but with all pictures being downloaded and used further on their socials. Not only that I received no goodie bag they promised, but not even a "Thank you" which is something that I didn't see coming. That was another lesson taught the hard way that you can't really trust people, because it often leads to lots of disappointment.
Hence, with this post, I will conclude my series of blog posts of this kind, at least for a while. The love and dedication to discover more murals still lives within, but considering that these people are still following me and perhaps looking for fresh new information and pictures taken, even if I will still see the new murals added yearly on the building of Sibiu, most likely I will keep them for myself, without sharing further. But we'll see.
This post is also going to take part in CCC'S Street Art Contest #263. Thank you!
The first mural of today's post, also being one of my favourites, is entitled "Prisms" and it represents a study of the 3D objects represented in a different way than the usual. The artist also reminds us about how many shapes and structures one can observe when zooming in, because behind everything, anyone can notice, there is also the three-dimensional world that only the curious ones get to observe.
Name: TOYBOX (2020)
Artists: PRISMS
Location: Calea Poplăcii 11, Sibiu, România
The next mural is one that many people cross by without even noticing it, because it blends perfectly with the landscape, where the ancient window symbolises the past, which many people tend to leave behind and hardly notice fragments of it without paying attention and wanting to return to the origins. The signal tape is meant to represent restoration and reconstruction, yet another symbol part of our lives.
Name: ORIGINS (2020)
Artists: ALEX MAKSIOV
Location: Calea Cisnădiei 17, Sibiu 557260, România
Next up, we have a very old mural which perhaps dates since the beginnings of the festival when there was no website or proper information about the new arts in town. Hence why, a name, a story, or an artist are not available right now. But I've seen lots of newer murals that were completely lost in time, so I am happy to see one that resists so well, especially since it is being placed in a quite popular place where pollution could have degraded the art so far.
Name: UNKNOWN TITLE
Artists: Unknown
Location: Strada Șureanu 1, Sibiu 557260, România
The forth piece of art from today's post is also a ghost of a graffiti as I like it being called, because, despire its determination to resist with the passage of time, some other elements got in the way and degraded it slightly, namely, the wall being ripped off in some parts or having other elements written over the art. This one is placed on the walls of a school, so perhaps it was meant not to last forever, although the artist did their part to bring some more colours to this part of the city.
Name: COCOR IN SICOMOR (2015)
Artists: Catalin Precup
Location: Strada Nicolae Iorga 56, Sibiu 550407, România
Last but not least, there is another mural that, sadly, was part of a temporary exhibition, even if it was created during the festival. That's why, information or any details are not available in this case either, but it surely stirred lots of smiles for those passing by and seeing this minimalist and wonderful piece of art.

That unknown mural is so cool! But Origins is maybe the coolest of all since it blended with the background 😅
They all have something special for sure 🥰
