This Week’s Favorites, Mundane Things

It has become my habit to take photos every time I have the opportunity, and I’m glad I’ve reignited this habit. What started as a nudge to pick up the camera again has turned into a daily rhythm, shoot, edit, write, repeat. I do like all the photos I take, but some resonate a little deeper. Here are a few recent favorites that stood out when I reviewed my shots this week.

The first frame is a leaf after the rain, beaded with droplets like tiny glass marbles. In black and white, those beads turn into bright little lenses, revealing the texture of the leaf and the gentle curve of its edges. Simple, but calming, almost meditative.

Next is a weathered wheelbarrow resting on grass. I love how the grit on the metal and the worn tire lines come alive without color. It feels like a quiet portrait of hard work, sturdy, patient, and unshowy.

Then there’s a torn traffic cone, wrapped with scrap tape. It’s an odd subject, yet the tattered layers make a sculptural silhouette. Imperfection gives it character, the kind you only notice when you slow down and really look.

Lastly, a cluster of soft seed heads, little fireworks frozen mid-bloom. Against a gentle blur, the delicate filaments glow, reminding me how fragile details can still feel powerful in monochrome.

Collecting these scenes each day has turned photography into a practice of attention. Ordinary things become interesting depending on the angle and framing, and the more I shoot, the more I notice. I’ll be sharing more personal favorites this week. For now, I’m grateful for these small moments that keep me excited to create, proof that beauty is always nearby when we give it a second look.
