Finding Beauty in Natural Patterns
One thing I’ve been noticing about my photography style lately is how easily I’m captivated by patterns. Whenever I see something with an interesting arrangement of lines, shapes, or repeating details, I immediately feel like taking a closer look through my camera.
Nature gives us plenty of these patterns. Flowers have their petals arranged in such beautiful ways, while leaves have veins, edges, and shapes that can look almost perfectly designed. Even a simple fern becomes interesting when you notice how each small part repeats along the stem. These details are easy to overlook when we’re simply walking past them.
I think this is one of the reasons why I enjoy photographing flowers and leaves so much. They already have their own natural composition. I only need to find the right angle and lighting to bring those details forward.
Black-and-white photography makes these patterns even more noticeable to me. Without color competing for attention, I can focus more on the shapes, textures, highlights, and shadows. In some of these photos, the bright petals stand out against the darker leaves, while the light passing through a leaf reveals tiny lines that we normally wouldn’t notice.
Photography has taught me that beauty doesn’t always have to come from something extraordinary. Sometimes, it can simply be a repeating pattern on a leaf or the arrangement of petals on a flower. We just need to slow down enough to notice it.
Maybe that’s also true in life. Small details can become meaningful once we start paying attention to them.
Have a good day ahead.
