Away From the Usual Path

I took a different path today, a little farther away from my usual neighborhood route. I didn’t really plan it, but sometimes wandering off the familiar trail is the best way to find something new. This time, it led me to some interesting plants that became my subjects for tonight’s photos.

Shooting at night is always a bit of a challenge. Most of the path was too dark, and even when I tried to take photos, the results were a mix of motion blur and heavy grain that I didn’t like. But along the way, there were a few spots where the street lights were strong enough to act like mini spotlights. Those were the places where the plants finally came to life in the frame.

What stood out the most was a set of vines slowly climbing up the trunk of a tree. The leaves looked almost geometric, like small circles stacked and overlapping along the bark. Under the harsh light, they created strong highlights and deep shadows, which worked really well in black and white.

Not every shot from tonight was usable, but that’s part of the process. You walk, you experiment, and you accept that some images will stay only as memories. The ones that made it into this post are the few that survived the darkness and the grain.

Still, I’m glad I decided to walk a bit farther than usual. A small change in direction gave me new subjects and a different mood to capture.

Have a good night!
