Mushrooms (Pholiota granulosa) grow singly or in large clumps on stumps and tree trunks. Although visually very similar to gymnopilus junonius, this particular one has a scaly or sometimes fibrous or almost smooth cap and prefers hardwood. This fungus is often found on stumps and roots that grow in large clumps or singly.
