Visiting a local cycling race

Yesterday we celebrated the birthday of the King of the Netherlands. Its a tradition in every city and town they organise activities on that day. There are fairs, flee markets and old street games from the past, there is music and much more.
In my town one of the things they organized was a local cycling race. I noticed it was the third year in a row that they have organized this race.

The race takes place on a street circuit. The streets have been cleared from cars and blocked by fences and red and white ribbon. After a corner they placed haystacks against lamp posts to prevent injuries. It must have been a giant operation to achieve this.

The circuit was withing a walking distance of my house, so I decided to check out one of the races. There were races all day long in different categories. When I went there a group of young teens were racing. It was a mixed group of both boys and girls. I think they were around the age of 12 or something like that.

They were riding together in a group. They looked quite professional with their bicycles and outfits.
There was a speaker naming a few riders and telling their results in other races they joined.

It is fun to see these kids having fun and exercising. And who knows that one of them might be a professional rider and will ride in big rounds as the Tour de France or the Giro d'Italia.

I made walk around the 2 kilometer circuit and took some shots along the way.

After this group there were also other age categories, but I didn't have the time to stay any longer.

The event was sponsored by the company Tacx who have a factory in our town. Tacx is a Garmin company that makes indoor bicycle trainers. They have placed a large we water bottle along the circuit.
They also gave all riders goodie bags with a water bottle in it as well.

Among the sponsors was a cycling shop that showed some of their nice models.

It was nice visiting this local race. I hope you also enjoyed my blog.

Wow I can feel the fun from just reading your blog about it. If you had not shared their age range, I would have thought they were adults lol.

That giant water bottle is fascinating 😍
Good they took precautions in their preparations for the race.
