Two tours, some commuting and an update of my cycling stats
Since a couple of weeks I've been posting updates of my weekly cycling stats. This forces me to look at the progress of my yearly goal (cycling 5000 kilometers) on a weekly basis.
I'm quite far behind of my schedule because of my long-term injury earlier this year, but I'm working hard to catch up!
In these blogs I'll also share tome highlights of my tours.
Week 28
This was quite a good week. I've been commuting three days which totals in 99 kilometers. Apart from that I made two tours. One on Thursday evening and one on Sunday.
The weekly total distance covered is 184.50
Yearly goal
These 184.5 kilometers last week resulted that I'm at 47% of my yearly goal now.
I have 2,641.97 kilometer left in 170 days. This comes down to 109 kilometer per week.
With the 185,5 kilometers I made last week I'm continuing the upgoing trend To catch up on the backlog I’ve built up because of my injury.
An intense ride
As I had explained in a recent blog, I'm paying more attention to the stats my Garmin gear gives me. To increase my fitness, measured in VO2Max, I'm following the advise my Garmin Connect gives me.
After a couple of 'easy' communting rides with a low heart rate it advised me to make more high aerobic rides. So I did...
My ride on Thursday evening wasn't that far, but I had an average speed of over 30 kilometers an hour. Which is quite nice, especially when you keep in mind that I also have to stop at crossings every now and then.
In my Garmin Connect stats for the ride I see that I spent over 60% in heart rate Zone 4, which helps building up VO2Max. So this was a good ride!
Sunday ride
On Sunday I went to help my parents-in-law lay a floor. They live about 40 kilometers from where I live, which is a nice distance to cover by bike. I have done it a few times before.
Because laying a floor is hard work I decided not to push it that much and enjoy the Sunday morning. Which was beautiful by the way!
The area is really beautiful. It's a nice ride through the polder. I often explain the polder in my blogs, which is an area that used to be a body of water or a swamp-like area that is pumped dry, but this image really shows it nicely.
In the front you see the ditch surrounding the area. The excessive water is pumped away via these ditches. You see the meadow with the cows in the back is lower than the water in the ditch.
More info about polders here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polder
I'm often bragging with the perfect cycling infrastructure we have in the Netherlands, but just look at these dedicated cycling paths. No cars, perfect roads and in the middle of nature!
And the cycling paths are also maintained very well. In the last part of the route I noticed a long strip of brand new asphalt.
Holiday
This is my last week before I have a three week holiday. I will go to the by bike to the office three days. We'll be traveling to France, but I will bring my bicycle with me on holiday. I'm planning to make some nice rides over there, so I can keep up my kilometers!
Stay tuned, because I will be posting some updates from my tours abroad as well!

Wow great average speed and pictures, high heart rate by the way!
In which French department you're going? I will be following you to France in ten days - not taking my bike though, I've seen the roads in Normandy I don't want to cycle on b-roads where cars also drive with 80 km/h
We're going further away now to Brittany but I guess it's the same there, we're just really spoiled with the Dutch cycling infrastructure
Thanks! It was quite a tough ride, but my heart rate always goes up quite fast. But I can ride for a long time in that zone.
Normandy and Britanny are beautiful as well. I like most parts of France!
That's a lot of distance to cover, enjoy!
