Saturday ride along the coast and the flower fields...

My mates and I go for a bike ride every Saturday morning. As the season progresses, we cover longer distances so that by summer, we're fit enough to complete our 200+ kilometer journey.

In recent weeks, I've unfortunately missed our weekly bike ride on Saturday mornings with my cycling buddies due to circumstances, but fortunately, I could join them again this morning. In the past, we've made trips of 50/55 kilometers. This time, the journey was a bit longer again.

As spring progresses, the weather gets slightly warmer. Today was still a bit chilly in the morning, but I know that once the sun comes out, it can get very warm on the bike, so I didn't wear too many thick clothes. I also didn't put on gloves, which turned out to be a wrong choice. There was quite a strong wind of about 20 kilometers per hour.

Despite not going out on weekends for the past two weeks, I've been cycling to the office several times a week. The distance isn't very long; 16.5 kilometers, but going to work three times a week still amounts to almost 100 kilometers per week. That definitely contributes to my fitness.

We started the ride today inland in a northern direction (because the wind was coming from the northwest). Halfway through, we headed towards the coast to cycle back south through the dunes.
Cycling in the dunes with the wind at your back is quite pleasant. In this densely populated area, the coastal region with the dunes is sometimes an oasis of peace. I say sometimes, because often later on (especially with good weather) there are many more cyclists and hikers in the dunes, but that wasn't the case today.

As you can see, it was still cloudy as the morning progressed. Unfortunately, the sun only came out when we were almost home again. Nevertheless, it was still a beautiful ride. It was quite manageable without gloves and overshoes, even though it was still below 10 degrees.

When we were almost home, we cycled past several flower bulb fields. The first flowers were already in bloom. Right now, it's these yellow daffodils and hyacinths that are blooming. In a couple of weeks, the tulip fields will be in bloom. I'll probably share those with you soon.

And here are the ride stats of today.
We're already heading towards routes of 70 kilometers, so that's going in the right direction.
Have you also made a nice bicycle ride this weekend? Please share it with us in the Cycling Community.

I'm sorry to hear that. I can't wait for the weather to get a bit better. I want to cycle in my bib shorts again. But with temperatures under 10 degrees I'm not yet going to.
What temperatures is in in 'your winter'?

Here in the south it stays around 10-15°C during the winter with occasional drops to 0-5. Winter is getting shorter by the day it seems, taking longer to arrive, but it tends to stay cold from June all the way into October.
