Insect macro's from my backyard jungle

A couple of days ago my compatriot @stresskiller created a new community focussed on macro photography.
I like many sorts of photography, but I actually dug into macro photography in the last one-and-a-half year after seeing some wonderful insect macro's on here.
I started out buying a cheap macro clip-on lens for my phone. The magnification was amazing, but I really had to get very close to the subjects to het them sharp. And with insects this isn't possible most of the times.

So I checked out what options I had for my Canon M50. It only has a few lenses I can mount (without extra rings or adapters that is). I did already own the kit lens and the 200mm zoom lens which happens to do some macro too.
Instead of buying an expensive macro lens I decided to buy some cheaper macro extension rings.
You loose some light, but it was a cheaper way to see if I could make better macro's.
And I almost always shoot during sunny days since there are more flying insects then as well.

Here are some examples of what I shot in the past few days:

Yesterday I spotted this hornet mimic hoverfly. I hadn't seen this species before. It's also the biggest hoverfly I've seen. In Dutch it's called the city giant hoverfly.
It really liked the flower of my snowberry bush.

I've planted a 'bees-and-butterflies-mix' in spring which results in quite a lot of colourful flowers. And they really seem to do their job. This bumblebee is collecting pollen from one.

Shooting with the extension rings and the kit lens is a bit more difficult since I need to get in closer. It's a bit harder to get a clear and sharp shot, but when you manage to do so, the detail of the images is great. Just look at the pollen all over the body of this bee.

I hope you like my shots 😊

it's not just with extension rings that it will need more light, Ihave face the same problems with the magnifications at 5* it's like taking pictuures at f32 sometimes and all the dustbunnies show up in your pictures. Hmm was just looking on LAOWA website seems they don't support the EF-m mount from cannons , didn't know cannon used that many different lens mounts.
But i've never seen that hornet mimic one myself looks pretty big , love the bee shot with the pollen.

Light is often a problem. I do have a led ring, but it's always a bit of a hassle to use, so I mostly try without it.

I guess that hoverfly was almost 2 cm, so quite big for a hoverfly.

Those are pretty close views; especially the last two!

Photography is not my area. But, I understand that taking a good shot needs some sort of skillfulness and gadgets. You have both!

Awesome

Really cool photos! Chasing bugs around the garden is actually quite fun.
