Fungi friday in the park

avatar

Last weekend I made a small round in a local park. It's autumn in western Europe, so that means there are lots of fungi. And I indeed spotted a lot of fungi during my walk in the park.

The first fungi I spotted was this Helvella crispa, also known as the white saddle. It doesn't look like a saddle to me. At least not a very comfortable one.
It looks more like a deformed alien 😂 But it is a very interesting looking fungi.

These little fellas are Hypholoma fasciculare, commonly known as the sulphur tuft or clustered woodlover. How they got that last common name is pretty obvious. These ones were growing on an old tree that was on the forest floor.

I'm no expert, so I use an app to identify the fungi. My Obsidentify app had a hard time determining this species of fungi. It gives a 34% match with a Armillaria ostoyae.
These big round mushrooms look a bit like pancakes to me.

At the end of my round through the park I spotted a nice type of clavarioid fungi; the coral fungi.
This type of fungi is formed of several erect stems and looks like coral. It also looks a bit spongy; very cool.

The appearance of the disabled aliens in the first picture sequence looks so tempting and they have a growth texture that looks so eye-catching and the mushroom appearance in the last picture also looks so beautiful my friend...

hehe greetings fungifriday friends ☺

The last crown tipped coral is one of my favorite edible fungi. The trick is harvesting it before it starts turning brown like on the left side of the photo, otherwise it has a bitter taste. But when fresh it has a strong mushroom flavor with a perfect pasta like texture.
