Everyday bicycles, street life in black and white
The Netherlands is famous worldwide as a cycling nation. Bicycles are not just a way to get around... they are part of daily life.
There are even more bicycles than people in the country.
On average there are about 1.3 bicycles for every person.
So in the cities you see a lot of people cycling, but also a lot of parked bicycles.
That inspired me for the following series.
This is my entry for the #monomad challenge by @monochromes
A long row of parked bicycles alongside a canal.

Bicycles are parked in rows in front of buildings.

There are some spots where you can't park, but clearly not everyone reads the signs.

Bicycle parking in an alley with cobble stones.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on these images. Feel free to share your perspective in the comments.

I really like your post, the photos are great! In my country, years ago, bicycles were essential for getting around the city and we even enjoyed it, but little by little that was lost, although happily it's making a comeback now. Great post!
Thanks mate!
The cycling culture of the Netherlands was developed in the 70's during the oil crisis and it's still developing.
That's great! I have my own bike and every time I go to the city I try to use it, especially these days with the transportation crisis. I take advantage of the trip and take photos! I love your photography!
This photo is a poem; it has a wonderful visual rhythm thanks to the composition, which takes advantage of curves, buildings, and the fantastic pair of leafless trees on the left. The ever-famous Dutch bicycles 🚲 complete a delightful photo with plenty of street character! Thank you for sharing this vertical postcard here! 😀

Hi @friendlymoose! 🦌
I was blown away by that stat: more bikes than people! 🤯 Coming from Cuba, bicycles are vital for us to get around every day, but seeing that "sea of bikes" in your photos is just another level. It is amazing how different cultures live the same reality.
I really like how the Black and White edit captures the texture of the streets. Great shots!
Greetings from a barber in Holguín. 💈👋

Great shots. I like how the bicycles become the main characters in each frame.
Thanks! I like to make series around a specific subject for my posts.
