Cycling through typical Dutch lanscapes (+ an update of my cycling stats!)
After a couple of weeks where we had a lot of rain, this week is quite a soft one. There isn't a lot of wind and the sun even shows up every day. Also this Saturday morning. It was a bit cold, the weather forcast was good; a perfect day for a bicycle ride.
Yesterday I did some necessary cleaning of my chain and gears. That is what you get when you're cycling all year round in the climate we have.

After I had cleaned and relubed my bicycle yesterday, it was ready for a ride today. Because there was hardly any wind it didn't matter in which direction I would go, so I decided to go for a ride in the polder.

The polder is a wide stretched area with a lot of meadows with cattle grazing in them. When I took off it was quite dark, but as you can see on the photo, the sky cleared up. If you pay attention, you can spot the Dutch windmills in the back on the right. There are over 1000 of those in the Netherlands and mostly in the area where I live.

I planned a route in between the meadows and a lake. A large part of the route I cycled on this quite narrow cycling road. Luckily I was quite early, so there wasn't any oncoming traffic. Because when there is, you really have to go into the grass I think 😀

When I was over an hour underway, the sun broke through and it even became warm. It was really a present. It is a bit difficult to decide what to wear during these rides, because it starts out way colder than in the end.

A thing that is becoming more and more common here in the Netherlands is cycling streets. We already have a lot of dedicated cycling paths, but there are still some streets where cyclists and cars share the road. Some of them are turned into cycling streets. They are painted red, just like most dedicated cycling paths. On these cycling streets, cyclists always have right of way over cars.

Yearly stats
Week 45 has almost come to an end. This week I commuted two days and my ride today was 62 kilometers. This resulted in a total of 127.46 kilometers this week.
This brings my total amount of cycling kilometers to 4534 so far. That leaves me under 500 kilomters for the 7 weeks left in 2025.

As you can see I'm a bit ahead of my yearly schedule, so if I can keep this up, I'll reach my 5K goal before the end of the year.

Amazing shot!!!
Wow, now I'm SO nostalgic. I really do miss those nice autumn days. That view with the cows? I had pictures like that a million times. So beautiful. But still, a few beautiful autumn days do not make up for the rest of the days, and the winter to come. I'm glad I'm outta there 🤣
Coming back in December for Christmas. The little one wants to do Christmas with the whole family, and my dad can't come to Ecuador anymore due to the height in the Sierra, where I live, and the climate on the coast, where we could meet. So, I have to buckle up and face winter in northern Germany.
Oh, and congratulations on that cycling goal!
