Boosting interaction and engagement among Hive photographers (part 2)

image.png

One week ago I created the following blog:
How to increase engagement on Hive (and specifically on photography posts)!
In this blog, I pointed out that engagement and interaction on Hive are very important, especially among photographers on Hive.

I also piloted a solution that could contribute to more interaction between photographers; an #engagement channel in the
Hive Photographers Discord Server
Although my script wasn't working fine during the past week I did manage to add some photograhpy blogs without any comments in there.
And today I think I managed to fix the script.

How does it work?

I have a script that runs every hour and copies the URLS into the discord channel of every post that:

  • Is between 3 and 7 days old
  • Is posted in the Photography Lovers or Photography community
  • Didn't receive a single upvote

The blogs that still haven’t received any replies will keep coming back every hour. Blogs that have already received a reply or are older than 7 days will no longer appear in the channel.

When we keep commenting, the script will give back less blogs.

Feedback

I've received quite some positive feedback on my blog which is great. The blog also led to a few new photographers joining the Hive Photographers Discord Server.

A point of concern was also mentioned: some people don’t respond at all to the comments they receive on their blogs.
For this I have the option to exclude users from the script. Just let me know the names (in Discord DM) and I'll add them to the exclusion list.

If anyone has any other suggestions for improvement of the script, please let me know.

My findings

I've been going through the blogs that have been caught by the script in the past week. I noticed that a quite a few of them were from relatively new users. Often the post wasn't photographically that interesting. Some users just put a lot of the same photos in one blog in the Photography Lovers community. I then give them some advise on how to improve their photography or where they can find some information for beginners.

Apart from these somewhat lower quality photography blogs I also spot some posts that do have very nice photographs, like this one from @justmythoughts
It was posted in the Photography Lovers community, but didn't have a single comment after three day. Yes, it has only 63 words, but the community has no minimum amount and it is a photography community after all.

My conclusion

The inventarisatie of the photoblogs without comments has shown to be useful. Good photographers didn't receive compliments and beginners weren't told how they could improve their blogs.
I have commented on a couple of blogs now and the reactions are positive, so I'll continue this experiment.

I hope you will help me with this initiative. This way we have more different people commenting on the blogs.
Just join the Hive Photographers Discord Server, look in the #engagement channel, visit some posts and leave some comments.

Together we can improvevengagement on Hive!
Thank you!

what if the reason they didn't get an upvote is because they derserve to be downvoted for plagiarism 😜

It is not about voting, it is about leaving a comment.
And you could reply on a post that has AI or plagiarism explaining that we don't tolerate that and you risk downvotes.

Your post has very direct words that are very difficult for me to imitate 😁
