A day in Florence
Yesterday we went a day to Florence. The temperature was almost 40 degrees Celcius very hot. We had to walk from shade to shade since we are not used to it.
Despite of the heat we managed to get a nice view of this beautiful city.
We made our first stop on a hilltop just outside the city center.
From here we had a perfect view over the city. The enormous cathedral really stands out.
We parked just outside the city center. On pur walk to the center we walked past the first church; Basilica di Santa Croce. A really Impressive building. A lot of famous people are buried here like Michelangelo, Machiavelli and Galileo Galilei.
Then we walked on to the Piazza della Signora. This giant square has a beautiful fountain.
Around the square are numerous statues which sometimes display gruesome scenes like the following ones.
Then we crossed the river Arno over the Ponte Vecchio. This bridge has all jewelry shops on it. Unfortunately most of the jewelry are very expensive.
Another thing you see a lot in Florence are painters. We've bought two small painted cards from this old man as a souvenir and asked if we could photograph him and his stand.
After that we went on to the Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore. This cathedral is really immense.
You could already see it from the first image of this blog post; the dome is really huge.
It was impossible to capture it completely with my camera gear. The front of the church is very heavily decorated. It's really beautiful.
We didn't enter the churches since the lines were way too long and cometely in the sun.
I hope you have a an impression of this beautiful city and that you like this post!

With great pleasure dear @friendlymoose. 😀
I hope you didn't get sick seeing such a lot of beauty! There are various theories out there that visiting Florence can lead to spasms and other ailments.
I never heard about that and also don't believe in that.
Great work! It is a beautiful city. You can also buy the tickets that allow you to skip the queue, definetly worth the extra imo!
Thanks! I didn't know that. I know they do that in amusement parks nowadays.
It's not my first time in Florence. I've been here 10 years ago. Back then we did go into the cathedral, so I know how impressive it is from the inside.
Thanks for visiting my blog!
