A beautiful hike near Ceyrat, France

I'm travelling with my family in France for three weeks. In the first week we stayed near Frejus. For this second week we moved to a town called Ceyrat, which is just outside the big city Clermont-Ferrand.
Ceyrat is located in the vulcan region of France. This region has a lot of old vulcans that luckily have stopped working.

After arriving on the campsite last Saturday, my wife and I decided to go for a hike to discover the area.

My wife does hike a lot, but hiking here is a lot different than where we live, since there is so much difference in height here. There were some really steep climbs and descents.

Just outside the campsite we entered a forest and walked mostly over a narrow, sandy and sometimes rocky trail.

Halfway through, it started to rain, so we had to take cover under a tree. Although it ended quickly, it also made the trail a bit slippery.

A bit later on we found some old sheppards huts.
These igloo-style buildings served as a refuge for shepherds many years ago.

It's a really beautiful area with a lot of nature and very nice rock formations.

During the tour we had some magnificent views over the area.

The hike had a total length of over 6 kilometers with 270 meters of elevation in it.
It was a tough hike but we really enjoyed it!

Enjoy your stay!

France is such a nice country, I went for a run because I left my bike at home and I felt the difference in height as well! 😅
