The rightful heir
Today it is Sunday and for those that follow the orthodox calendar it is the most important Sunday of the year, it is Easter! And in Greece, even for those that don't care much about the religious aspect of the day, it is a perfect opportunity for families and friends to gather together and enjoy a festive day with a lot of food! Myself I have the habit to wake up early so before the festivities begin, I have enough time to write a post while drinking my morning tea :)
The location is the medieval fortified town of Mystras, in the southern Peloponnese region. A settlement that used to be glorious but is more like a ghost town now and apparently a famous tourist attraction! As of 1989 it is part of UNESCO's World Heritage Convention, a minimum recognition of its importance. If you follow the link to UNESCO's page you can find as much historical facts as you might want!
It was a brilliant spring day when I visited it, the wild flowers were blooming and the eerie feeling that I often have in abandoned settlements, was abated by the beauty of nature and the delicate scent of the flowers! As the lives of the people that built and occupied this place are fading away, nature becomes the rightful heir and reclaims the land once again!
At the top of the hill, it is the castle and as every castle, it has a mesmerising view! Although many things have changed over the last centuries both in the landscape and in the human race, I can't help it wondering, what it would feel like, for the medieval man, to stand on those same walls.
My photo pals, always one step ahead :)
Of course it didn't take long for the keen photographer in me to be carried away and start shooting with a restless excitement that didn't stop until I was back in the car!
This is my contribution to #SublimeSunday inspired by @c0ff33a and #BeautifulSunday initiated by @ace108.
Have a great week ahead!

Lovely photos...
Thanks!
Glad you like them :)
It looks partially ruined. I hope the UNESCO entry gives them more access for funds for maintaining the place.
Yes, Greece is famous for its ruins!
