Still my city
It is day 31 of our big autumn trip and the scenery keeps changing in the most diverse way. From the tiny island with the 18 inhabitants, that we visited at the beginning of our journey, we are now to Athens, the chaotic capital of Greece that hosts millions of souls! As I walk into the busy roads and admire for one more time the emblematic buildings that I am so familiar of, I can't help thinking that although I have left more than 8 years ago and my life has taken a completely different direction, this is still my city.
Of course visiting for a few days is completely different than living in a place and all the things that drove me away haven't change, in fact they are much worse. Living here seems the worst idea than ever but I can't avoid a touch of nostalgia as well as a pinch of reminiscence :)
After all I was born, raised and lived for 40 years in this city and I have many happy memories that haven't faded away!
Since I rarely visit Athens, maybe once a year just for a few days, I have so many things to do, so many people to see and so much catching up to do that I end up overwhelmed and exhausted. Taking pictures is very low in my to do list and this time it was no exception. My dslr is sitting comfortably in its bag and it is the smartphone in my pocket that gave me the opportunity to share with you some images of my surrounding.
I took those pictures at Syntagma square, the most central spot of the town, while I was waiting for an upcoming appointment. The name Syntagma means constitution in Greek and the iconic building above, is the Greek parliament. I cannot count how many times I have passed from this road but now I am just one more tourist sightseeing and taking pictures :)
The feeding of the pigeons (pic above) is a tradition that stands for many generations. I have done it myself as a kid and I can't stop a smile appearing on my face as I see all those youngsters doing the same thing so many decades later :)
And of course visiting the city includes diving into the depths of the metro. A totally normal and ordinary activity for city fellows but a rather claustrophobic and unpleasant experience for someone that is used to the openness of the countryside :)

Aww that is so nice to see "your" city and hear you talk about it. Fun that you have been able to visit both your home and Fontina's this year!
Yes, we are doing a lot of visiting at this trip :)
I so understand. Visiting is so different that living somewhere.
Even when you have good memories.
Things made you leave… and like you said they got worse.
Great walk through the city. Beautiful captures. Clear skies and sunny weather. Lovely.
Have a wonderful weekend @fotostef 👋🏻😁

Beautiful Athens no matter you don't like her anymore 🇬🇷😻
I like her alright, I just don't want to live there anymore :)
🤣🤣🤣 I didn't know that Athens is a so terrible city to live now 😟 it used to be so nice when I lived there as a child 🥺
I don't know if it is fair to call it terrible, a lot of people still like it. Maybe it is me that I have changed (or getting old) and I don't find her appealing any more.
Maybe it's because you got used to live between nature ⛰️🌲🌳🌴🌱 and nature always makes us return to our origin and forget the city life 😉
