Duality, entropy and a simple walk

IMG_2583.jpg

The screechy sound behind my back startled me! I was lost behind my camera, trying to frame a bunch of bougainvillea flowers with a few decorative columns, in the blurry background. It turned out that it was only a store's roller shutter but I was too distracted to notice the lady with the flowery dress that was opening her shop!

I like to walk in the old town before the stores open. Everything is more quiet, there are less people on the streets and I can have a more clear view of the town's actual face!

As so many others places, this town has two faces. The shiny one that is presented to the tourists and the real life. The former, with all those amazing buildings perfectly renovated, the blooming bougainvilleas and the glamorous and expensive shops and the latter, just a few meters away, with the air-condition units hanging graceless on the front of the buildings, the artless graffiti that informs us what soccer team is supporting anyone with a spray can in the hand or the weeds growing on old, untended stone walls.

I like them both, the lustre of the commercial and the roughness of reality and most of all I like their coexistence. I wouldn't feel comfortable in a place too perfect or too neglected. In my mind, the one somehow balances the other and gives to the whole a touch of familiarity. Anyway duality and entropy (the tendency of every system towards disorder) are essential parts of our universe and trying to override them, is just pointless!

On the other hand as I look the picture of this lovely cat enjoying the morning sun, I am coming to the conclusion that a major problem of mankind is overthinking. If we could just enjoy every little thing like animals do, we could regain a part of the paradise that we were once banished from :)

Every Wednesday @tattoodjay is inviting us to get out for a short walk, get some shots of what we can see and make a #wednesdaywalk post about it. This is my walk from yesterday and my thoughts from today. I hope you enjoyed it!
Happy walks, to all of you :)

And as a bonus shot, kind of a selfie :)

I found this post very insightful. Apart from the great pictures, you also shared some thoughts I completely agree with. We, as humans, overthink constantly on everything, but isn't this also the beauty of our rich human condition? That which allows us to ponder over objects and situations, and to appreciate even more deeply everything surrounding us. I'm pretty jealous of that cat sunbathing anyways 😅
Lovely photos really 💫

Thank you very much @flewsplash :)

I guess that this part of our brain, the one responsible for all the thinking (and overthinking) is a blessing and a curse at the same time. The reason behind all the glory and all the suffering of the human race!

Thanks!

Those are taken with my light gear, which is a Canon EOS 850D with an EF-S 18-135 lens attached. I bought it as an alternative when I don't want to carry my heavy bag with the full-frame equipment and I have become very fond of it :)

This is the nitty gritty in life, old with the new, weathered with the reinstated. The blend is stunning and speaks volumes of letting life be and enjoying what there is without overthinking what could be.

I happen to like places like this and it seems more normal than all brand new and shiny. Almost artificial. Who/what can be brand new forever? It is the softening around the edge, growing out a bit, just like a new haircut, it looks better after it has grown out a little. The weathering of the buildings gives them character, allowing for the surrounding personalities to be part of it.

I absolutely love this post. I love the first few shots pulling me into it and imagine myself in the midst of it all. The crumbling of the buildings tells the age to a certain degree. The beauty of the bougainvillea flowers softens the scene, giving it even more life. Stunning.

The cat? She just knows how to enjoy life.
