An effortless day
Public transportation is not my thing. Since I was a kid they made me sick (literally). Actually even my dad's car got me dizzy but I could make him stop at any time. Traveling as a child was a torture. When I finally started driving myself, a revelation came. No vehicle was bothering me, as long as I was the one behind the wheel!
So I bought my first car and later my motorbike and never looked back! For me travelling means driving, as simple as that. Not that I have never been on a train, a plain or a ferry but I avoided like the plague busses, both within the city limits as well as for long distance trips. Even the tube was not something that I was fond of. Too crowded, too claustrophobic and occasionally, too smelly :)
But times change and so are we!

This week I had to go to the city, for a few hours, to take take care of some business. This involved a two hours drive on the motorway and appointments in many different and distant, one from the other, parts of the city. The motorcycle would have been ideal if the weather forecast didn't predict rain and storm. But it did.
The car was not a good option either, for that specific day, so I decided to give public transportation one more chance to earn my appreciation.

I don't know if it was my lucky day but it turned out to be an experience far from unpleasant. The countryside looked lovely from the high point of view that the bus was offering me, the metro wasn't really busy and finally it didn't rain, so I could walk easily in between. Plus that I had the chance to take pictures as I was moving from one place to the other!
In total I spent 13 hours away from home. About six of them I was in a vehicle. And yet I returned, not tired at all and rather relaxed!

I realised that driving drains a lot of energy from myself. As much as I enjoy it, I can't deny that handing over the responsibility of driving to a professional, gave me plenty of time to observe the scenery and the people around me, to get lost in my thoughts, even daydream, as I was moving around in such an effortless way.
After decades of been an eager driver, I had a second revelation in my life. Not driving can be so easy :)

I still avoided the urban bus though. I used the metro a lot but at the end of the day, when I was only a ten minutes drive away from the bus terminal from where I would take the motor-coach to leave the city, I cracked. I would need one hour for that route using public transportation so I grabbed a taxi and finished my day at the city exactly as it was till then, effortless :)

All the pictures and the words are mine.
