A treat for the eye and a feast for the mouth

A restaurant is a place to satisfy our hunger and that's enough on its own, to consider it an important part of our life. But sometimes it is much more! There are many reasons for that. It may be the wonderful location or the extraordinary flavours, the passionate and knowledgeable stuff, or even our good mood or our company. Whatever the case, I am sure that you all have one (or many more) dinning experience(s) that are way above the "satisfy my hunger" standards.

I visited "Petrinos" restaurant on a cold winter day and from the first glance, I knew that it is a place that would fit into the "much more" category!

First of all the location. I reached the village Flamouria through a rural scenery with vineyards and woodland, combined in a totally charming way. And I love rural :)

It took me 20 minutes to get there from the town of Edessa but I didn't even noticed the time, enchanted by the beautiful landscape. Although it was December and nature was already in the winter mode, it was still a wonderful drive!

At the spot that I was expecting to see the restaurant, there was a lovely stone-built cottage! The excessive amount of chairs in the garden, was the only sign that it was something else than a regular village house and I was kind of reluctant to enter, but it turned out that I was at the right place all along!

The interior was a real revelation! I have seen many well-made establishments in small villages but this one was jaw-dropping! The homey feeling and cozy atmosphere made me think that I am visiting a friend rather than entering a business.

Sotiris, the creator, owner and chef of this amazing place made that feeling even stronger. After proudly showing his cellar and his wine collection, he invited me to the creative chaos of his kitchen!

The food was the last (but definitely not least) pleasant surprise that I had out there! I think you can understand from the pictures that his cooking style is way beyond the traditional or typical Greek cuisine. I am going to use a cliche here (I might even put it in the title of the post) that is totally true in this case:

A treat for the eye and a feast for the mouth :)

This last picture of the post is my favourite from the day's shooting so although I have used it before, in a food related post, I just had to include it here too.

Pardon me for this repetition :)

That day took place a few years back, when I was travelling and photographed for a Greek travel magazine. That explains the full access and private tour in all the premises :)

This post is my contribution to #MarketFriday, initiated by lovely @dswigle!

Hello! Hello, Stefanos! @fotostef You could show me that picture 100 times more and I would not tire of it! Done with a different context, it makes the same impact each and every time!

What an interesting journey you take us on, setting the scene with the rural landscape, which adds to the atmospheric peaceful feeling of your destination. The stone cottage, pleasing to the eye with its picturesque simplicity is everything one could hope for, until you stepped through the door and found that it could be, indeed so much more.

Oh, the fermented fruit, hidden below in the cellar, without the benefit of direct sunlight, storing it until its time. A very impressive stock to come upon. Yamas!

His cooking style borders on eclectic, but true! He creates such looking dishes for the palate! Just look at that kitchen and him, together they create a memory that won't be fast forgotten. Giving the room my attention, I would have to say he has gone beyond the boundaries of taste. It is, indeed the whole atmosphere, a pleasant, truly soothing ambiance.

It is not just a place to eat, but also a small, intimate world he has created for you.

Please take me back! I have to wonder what dessert would be like. I know I don't eat dessert, but, I make it a habit of looking at it. :) This post is a winner. I love it!

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world. Thank you for being a part of #MarketFriday

Rules of the Road to Join #MarketFriday!

1.Go to any type of market, or anywhere where you pay money for a service. It can be a museum, a movie theatre, or an auction. Be creative!
2.Tell us a little bit about the market or the event. What brought you there? What did you buy? How much did it cost? We like to compare prices, otherwise, it is just pictures of a market!
3.Post the pictures! No out-of-focus ones, please! Tell a little bit about the pictures that you post. Having many pictures to scroll through does not make a better post without explanation.
4.Use the MarketFriday Community Platform to post #hive-196308 (this is not required, but appreciated) If you don't, then #MarketFriday should be your first tag
5.Following me and reblogging the post so more see it would be appreciated !! Not a rule, just appreciated, more vision for more views on your posts!
6 You must put #MarketFriday by @dswigle somewhere on your post.
7.#MarketFriday post should be submitted sometime on Friday UTC
8.The post MUST be in English
9.Drop the link into the MarketFriday comment section so I can find it

Thank you so, so much Denice for all your beautiful words, receiving a comment from you is good enough reason to take part in #MarketFriday on its own :)

I have to disappoint you though! No dessert that day, of any kind!

Thanks again for your support and encouragement...

... and of course for the tip :)
