2025 - an insane fitness year in numbers and more than 5,5k Hivepower... my training diary entry from January 1 2026

(Because it was the tour with the most elevation gain of 2025 I have choosen another picture from our Zugspitze hike. Here you can see the Gatterl, the symbolic border between Germany and Austria.)

Hi Actifitters,

since yesterday was a rest day I have nothing to tell you about a workout. I simply completed my daily required steps, which I had set at 15000 for the new year, up from 13500.

Of course, the Actifit app counted too few steps again on the very first day of the year.

I would like to take this opportunity to capture the year 2025. So I took a closer look at my Garmin recordings and picked out a few numbers.

Tracked activities: 281

Quiet a lot if you think that the year has 365 days. But I have to say that 2025 was the most sportive year in my whole life. Lets see if I am able to top it in 2026.

Total distance: 2753 km

Here is everything in what I did on my feet or bycicle. This number is not really big in my opinion. But lets see which distance I can acumulate this year.

Max distance by bycicle: 108.8 km

I can remember the day very detailed because it was a painful one on the last kilometers. I visited a friend to celebrate his birthday and I did it on my mountainbike. It was the first and only time in 2025 that I rode my bycicle outdoors. I was fit overall but I had nearly no cycling exercises these days. So it was a challenge to finish the whole route because the last hour my shin muscle began to hurt and it became worse and worse. In the end, I persevered and was extremely glad I hadn't given up.

Total time of all activities: 688 hours and 40 minutes

Breaking that down, I was active for about 1 hour and 53 minutes per day. That's actually a very considerable amount of time when I think back on my past life. Whether I'll top that this year remains to be seen, but there's really no reason to try. Two hours would be a nice daily average! Well, we'll see.

Max time of one activity: 9 hours and 58 minutes
Max distance walked: 43.76

Similar to my outdoor bike tour, I remember this day very well. The last two hours were also extremely painful. The cause was, once again, my shin muscle. As I write this, I realize that this is clearly a major weakness I should work on.
Be that as it may, the activity in question here is a very long tour that I undertook with a friend. You could describe it as a mix of walking and hiking. In total, we covered a distance of 43.76 kilometers in almost ten hours.
This tour is the reason why one of my goals for 2026 is to walk 50 kilometers in one go.

Total elevation gain: 25,621 meters

Since 2025 was the first year I regularly went hiking in the mountains, I have no point of comparison, but I think I don't have to hide for the first year. Nevertheless, I definitely want to surpass this value in 2026.

Max elevation gain: 2,100 meters

This was another really nice day because I was training hard for this achievement. My cousin, my wife and me mastered the summit of Zugspitze, Germanys highest mountain, in one day. My original plan was to also descend on foot, but we arrived at the summit too late for that.
Nevertheless, I now know what it takes to master both ascent and descent in a single day. That, by the way, is another goal for 2026.

Total step count: 8,104,182

This is a value I am really proud of because in terms of fitness everything began with the first step I consciously made at the beginning of 2024. On a completely spontaneous whim, I ordered my first outdoor watch - the Garmin Instinct 2X Solar. I can remember the unboxing moment at the evening on January 3rd. The next day I tracked my first steps and did not stop until today.
One interesting fact: the total step amount means a daily average of 22203, what is insane in my opinion. There is no reason to exceed this value in 2026.

Most steps on one day: 57,661

I made this amount of steps on the day I walked the 43.76 kilometers. A new record here is another goal for 2026.

Actual and longest step streak: 361 days

This is maybe the value I am most proud of. Since nearly one year I did not miss to make my mandatory steps. Only four more days to go and I mastered a whole year.
As mentioned at the beginning of this report my daily step minimum was at 13500 in 2025. Since I topped this amount by far I set it to 15000 in 2026. I didn't want to go higher, as it's unrealistic to be able to take a higher number of steps every single day.

Conclusion

2025 was a fantastic year for my fitness, made possible only because I wasn't injured or ill even once. I am so thankful! It's truly incredible to me that I was so disciplined throughout. One area where I can still improve is my diet. There's definitely room for improvement there.

I'm looking forward to 2026 and am curious to see when, and if, I'll reach my goals.

After all these remarkable numbers, the following may seem insignificant, but it too is a fine achievement.

Since I started posting my fitness diary Actifit reports I accumulated a total amount of more than 5500 Hivepower. I'm really curious to see where this journey will lead.
