Beyond Expectations: Roe Deer, Resilient Pines & Blue Blooms

I often enter the forest with minimal expectation of finding any animals. Sometimes, I enjoy the quiet and fresh air, a disconnect from the usual demands and restraint of life. But it is often when you encounter the least expectation of something while in the forest, you are rewarded the most. Just like I was when I encountered a beautiful deer. That day was perfect with the sun shining through the trees, the forest was vibrant with all of its shades of green. I was riding my bike and enjoying one of my favorite tours that circuit in deep in the forest.

After a little while, I decided to take a break. I parked my bike and enjoyed a moment away from everything, to just be in the forest, to take in the sounds and the calmness. I always have my camera with me, you never know what detail or unexpected sight you might an opportunity to capture. And at that moment, I was just appreciating the moment and enjoying the silence - and then it happened.

Out of nowhere something came out of the bush to the other side of the path. It sent my heart into surprise! It was a deer, a very beautiful deer running across the path with a grace only a wild animal possesses. It was fast, it was fleeting, a true spirit of the forest! I had my camera with my hand and responded unconsciously to the moment. I got off two or three photos before it jumped into the green as quickly as it appeared. It was such a magical and fleeting moment that I could hardly believe what I had just witnessed.

After experiencing this exhilarating, I was still under the spell of the experience and I continue with my tour. The forest had so much more to share with me today than simply trees or trails. The forest offers multiple surprises, and as I continued my exploration, I discovered even more smaller natural treasures.

Along the way, I came across a small, even somewhat bizarre scene, that instantly held my attention. On an old table likely left-over from an old forest hut or picnic site—two mini-conifers were literally growing. It is absolutely amazing to observe how nature takes back its space, even on inhospitable ground. These baby trees, extending on hard stone, are an example of perseverance and the ongoing struggle of life. They demonstrate that life will always find a way, where it seems unimaginable. It makes me wonder how long they've been living there, and how they actually survive in these settings. These small things make a forest walk or bike ride extraordinary. You simply have to keep your eyes open.

Lastly, I want to share 2 photos of a true carpet of bright blue blooms I also stumbled across at some point during my tour. These little beauties formed an impressive patch on the ground, captivating, and provided a dramatic chromatic contrast to the lush green surroundings.

Usually life takes over in the most surprising ways when one has no expectations.

Very good pictures. And the deer! Blessed & lucky you were to have the chance for this encounter. A brake worth taking in order to let life taking over.

Forest in indeed a magical & refreshing place.

The vegetation you have captured is quite cool. I also like a lot the way you wrote this entry. It has such a nice touch. And perhaps the same touch reflects through the pictures you took.

Nice one!

Thank you for sharing!
