Visiting the old Roman Arch in Carnuntum

Some time ago I visited the small village Petronell Carnuntum in Lower Austria when I met with some other photographers there for some birdphotography at the danube river. There is one Arch left and a drawing of the arch what it mus have looked like in the old times. But there is only very few evidence left that this was part of a 50.000 inhabitant city wich was pretty larg at this time. It was a really foggy day when I got there and the conditions were not great for taking pictures of Landscapes and buildings like this but at least I tried.

Carnuntum was a Roman legionary fortress (Latin: castra legionis) and headquarters of the Pannonian fleet from 50 AD. After the 1st century, it was capital of the Pannonia Superior province. It also became a large city of 50,000 inhabitants. -- Wikipedia
