Short-eared owl in flight
Back in Spring this year I had the luck that I could take several pictures of the short-eared owl in flight near Lake Neusiedler. It started flying at the beginning of the twilight and this is why I still could get some reasonable pictures of this beautiful birds. It was also very cooperative and flew several rounds up and down the field hunting for prey, this is the reason I could take some really close pictures from this bird that is usually very difficult to photograph since it often flies when there is too less light for some photos. I had luck this time.

The short eared owl is another bird on my list of different bird species and it is growing and growing. It is getting harder and harder every time I find a new species to add another new species since I am more or less always visiting certain spots and there are usually the same kind of birds and only one some rare occasions there are some special birds that are on migration and that can be found by luck.

Great photos, Florian! What a beautiful owl! Incredible!
Thank you, the owl was very cooperative since it didn't care about the people standing and only was interested in the prey it could find in the field, so I had some good opportunities to take these pics.
Beautiful captures!
A little trivia about the owl. Maybe you already know it. It is that their flight is silent - meaning there is no sound from their flapping their wings when they are in flight.
Yes i know, perfect hunters. But thank you for the input.
Superb shots. Owls are not that easy to spot, let alone photograph with this detail!
Great photos! So close and in flight to photograph an owl, very beautiful! Now I'm jealous :)
I love the colors of that owl, great photos 👍🤍🖤🦉
Oh wow, beautiful shots! I can't wait to have a chance to film one at some point too...they are very crafty in this area.
