Nest Building with the Great Crested Grebe

In Spring this year I had the luck that I found a spot where the great crested grebe built their nest close to the edge of a lake and I was able to get very close to them without disturbing the birds. I watched them building their nest for several hours and I could take a lot of beautiful pictures of this action. I hope next spring I have a similar luck either with the same bird species or maybe another species building their nest so close to a spot where I can hide for some pictures.

Stefan found this spot and we visited it several times in spring for some pictures and one day everything was perfect, the light, the birds and the spot. I took so many pictures of this couple doing their best to prepare their nest for their offspring. The great crested grebes are very beautiful in my opinion and watching them was really fun.

What an amazing thing is to see these birds performing parental duties. I wonder, how do they know what to do? So cool!
