Home Sweet Home Surfing Sesh Spot | Ostia, Nov 23, 2025

Hey Hivers! Hope you all are doing well or at least better than me. While I am recovering from a food poison, I though it'd be nice to share some of my latest shots taken during a surf sesh, in Ostia, the beach of Rome, Italy.

I know it's been a while: I tend to lose consistency when my life is taken over by a million commitments, and many many thoughts. Honestly, I am still suffering from that broke up happened in April, and for the whole Summer and Fall I've been trying not to stop for a second, keeping my mind and body busy. I thought that this would save me from suffering, but hey: no... it's not working.

What did work though is that, by doing a thousand different things, and exploring new aspects of life, and getting back to my old passions, such as surfing photography, I met new people and made incredible new friendships. I got to know new spots and rediscovered the beauties of the ones near home, just like Ostia. The place where everything started with surfing.

Not everyone knows that Ostia is the best spot where to learn surfing: the current is often strong and the spot in general gets very windy. The waves can get higher than 1,5meters. Not the other day though: this was a Sunday's session and there was basically nothing left from the wavy day of Saturday. Wind from North (Tramontana) flatted almost everything, and the cold wind made it hard for many to step in. Mostly the courses of the school were the only ones brave enough to catch the few waves remaining. It was worth the walk on the seaside, nonetheless. I had a chat with a friend and met a new friend there; I had the chance to take some shots of Amedeo, the school instructor and my very first instructor of surfing back in 2016! It was nice to stay in the sun, walking on the beach...

To me it was a bit traumatic to stay in such a cold temperature, since I was just back from Dahab, Egypt, where the average temperature was always 30°C! And then, I landed in Rome with 4°C on Friday night, and heavy rain... crazy!

I definitely am not made for the cold, but I am for watersports, that's for sure! No matter if I practice them or take photos of them... I simply love the sea and can't stay so far from it for a long time. Yes: 24 hours were already a lot!
