Grotte di Pertosa
It's been already a while since I started the storytelling of my last trip in Cilento, in April. I already shared four posts on my blog, in case you want to take a look back at them:

Today I will share with you some shots from the visit of some fantastic natural grottoes, very famous in the south of Italy: Pertosa Caves. You should know, first of all, that it is not allowed to take pictures of the stalagmites/stalactites, therefore, unfortunately, I do not have pictures of those to show you.
However, it was allowed to take pictures of the other zones of the caves, which are still quite impressive to look at. Consider that these natural caves are still to be discovered and explored entirely; it is 3km long and 263m high, but as said, scientists are still digging and discovering news parts.
The visit show case is about 1,2km long and it is possible to visit prior reservation (you might be lucky to find some random spot of someone's drop, but it's better to plan your visit in advance and save you guide tour!
The visit is roughly 1hour and is very interesting also in the way they organize it; in order not to impact on the natural environment of the karst cave, the guide tour start off from a ferry from the entrance of the cave to the real spot where stalactites and stalagmites have been formed.
Also, it was very interesting to get to know about the history of this site which was inhabited by humans during the bronze era. Talking about the conformation of the cave itself, you should know that it takes around 100 years for limestone to grow by 1centimetr and form the shape of the stalagmites and stalactites visible today. It's sad not to be able to take photos of them, but it is forbidden as the lights of flash, or any other type of light, will modify or stop the "growth" of the stalagmites and stalactites; the absence of light make the formation of this cave possible, and it is also the reason for the lack of living beings in the water around the cave.
The same water is the same of the local river Tanagro, which provides the tourists with outstanding views of waterfalls outside the cave zone. Very beautiful and worth visiting!
Gole del Sammaro
The second part of the excursion day we planned to go see the "Gole del Sammaro", River Sammaro Gorges. My accountant suggested that we couldn't miss out that stop, and indeed, he was totally right!
Honestly this place completely took my soul and my mind that no many other places so far in Cilento could do. We didn't know exactly where to go, but we began hiking and at some point we had to stop because of a bridge closed on the path.
We didn't give up and we kept hiking on the side of the river, towards the waterfalls whose noise was quite high! We got there and then we just lost ourselves walking into the gorges, deeper and deeper...
May be it was because we were the only ones visiting that place at that moment, or may be it was just the true beauty of that place: I was completely striken by the atmosphere of those gorges, and the deeper I walked into them, the happier I got, just like a kid.
Of course Riccardo couldn't but taking my camera and took many pictures of me... ahah! Anyway, I hope you can almost hear the sounds of the water streaming across the rocks, and the echoes of the birds tweeting among the trees over the gorges... simple magic.
We were both in peace there, we definitely spent a lot of time but it was our reward for getting so far and all alone, without indications from locals. Indeed, it is not quite well signed on the maps, and also on the road there is only one sign indicating the way to the path. I guess this is also one of the reasons why it was so quiet: most tourists do not even know about this place, you need to be a local or a local needs to tell you about it!
The different lines of colors on the rocks depend on the minerals which the water contains and that goes through the rocks in the form of humidity. Also, sometimes, the presence of plants and mold makes the rock change their original clear color into a greener, or redder, or even yellower one. I personally find it incredible!
It looks like mother nature wants to depict a painting using its own tools: minerals, water, air, and plants. Isn't it fantastic?

Grotte di Pertosa
E' passato già da un po' di tempo da quando ho iniziato a raccontare il mio ultimo viaggio in Cilento, ad aprile. Ho già condiviso quattro post sul mio blog, nel caso volessi rivederli:

Oggi condividerò con voi alcuni scatti della visita di alcune fantastiche grotte naturali, molto famose nel sud Italia: Grotte di Pertosa. Devi sapere, innanzitutto, che non è consentito fotografare le stalagmiti/stalattiti, quindi, purtroppo, non ho foto di quelle da mostrarti.
Tuttavia, è stato permesso di fotografare le altre zone delle grotte, che sono ancora piuttosto impressionanti da vedere. Considerate che queste grotte naturali sono ancora da scoprire ed esplorare interamente; misurano 3 km di lunghezza e 263 metri di altezza, ma come detto, gli scienziati stanno ancora studiando e scoprendo nuove parti.
La visita è lunga circa 1,2 km ed è possibile visitare con una guida previa prenotazione (potresti essere fortunato a trovare qualche posto libero di qualcuno che ha rinunciato all'ultimo, ma è meglio pianificare la tua visita in anticipo per avere la certezza di una visita guidata!)
La visita dura circa 1 ora ed è molto interessante anche per come la organizzano; per non intaccare l'ambiente naturale della grotta carsica, il tour guidato parte da un traghetto dall'ingresso della grotta fino al punto reale in cui si sono formate stalattiti e stalagmiti.
Inoltre, è stato molto interessante conoscere la storia di questo sito abitato da esseri umani durante l'era del bronzo. Parlando della conformazione della grotta stessa, devi sapere che ci vogliono circa 100 anni perché il calcare cresca di 1 centimetro e prenda la forma delle stalagmiti e stalattiti oggi visibili. È triste non poterle fotografare, ma è vietato in quanto le luci del flash, o qualsiasi altro tipo di luce, modificano o fermano la "crescita" delle stalagmiti e stalattiti; l'assenza di luce rende possibile la formazione di questa grotta, ed è anche la ragione della mancanza di esseri viventi nell'acqua intorno alla grotta.
L'acqua è la stessa del fiume Tanagro della zona, che offre ai turisti una vista eccezionale delle cascate al di fuori della zona della grotta. Molto bello, merita una visita!
Gole del Sammaro
La seconda parte della giornata di escursione avevamo programmato di andare a vedere le "Gole del Sammaro", Gole del fiume Sammaro. Il mio commercialista ha suggerito che non potevamo perderci quella tappa, e in effetti aveva perfettamente ragione!
Onestamente questo posto ha preso completamente la mia anima e la mia mente in un modo che pochi altri posti finora nel Cilento hanno saputo fare. Non sapevamo esattamente dove andare, ma abbiamo iniziato a camminare e ad un certo punto ci siamo dovuti fermare a causa di un ponte chiuso sul sentiero.
Non ci siamo arresi e abbiamo continuato a camminare sulla sponda del fiume, verso le cascate il cui rumore era piuttosto forte! Ci siamo arrivati e poi ci siamo semplicemente persi camminando nelle gole, sempre più profonde...
Sarà perché eravamo gli unici a visitare quel luogo in quel momento, o forse era solo la vera bellezza di quel luogo: sono rimasto completamente colpita dall'atmosfera di quelle gole, e più mi addentravo in esse, più mi sentivo felice, proprio come un bambina.
Certo che Riccardo non poteva non prendere la mia macchina fotografica e quindi mi ha fatto tante foto... ahah! Ad ogni modo, spero che tu possa quasi sentire, da questi scatti, i suoni dell'acqua che scorre sulle rocce e gli echi degli uccelli che cinguettano tra gli alberi sopra le gole... semplice magia.
Eravamo entrambi in pace lì, sicuramente abbiamo trascorso molto tempo ma è stata la nostra ricompensa per essere arrivati così lontano e da soli, senza indicazioni da parte della gente del posto. In effetti, non è proprio ben segnalato sulle mappe, e anche sulla strada c'è un solo cartello che indica la strada per il sentiero. Immagino che questo sia anche uno dei motivi per cui era così tranquillo: la maggior parte dei turisti non conosce nemmeno questo posto, devi essere un locale o un locale deve parlartene!
Le diverse linee di colore sulle rocce dipendono dai minerali che l'acqua contiene e che attraversano le rocce sotto forma di umidità. Inoltre, a volte, la presenza di piante e muffe fa sì che la roccia cambi il suo colore chiaro originale in uno più verde, o più rosso, o addirittura più giallo. Personalmente lo trovo incredibile!
Sembra che madre natura voglia creare un dipinto utilizzando i propri strumenti: minerali, acqua, aria e piante. Non è fantastico?
Dopo questa poetica considerazione, vi lascio con una carrellata di foto che Riccardo mi ha scattato mentre riflettevo sulla meraviglia delle gole del Sammaro... spero vi piaccia e continuate a seguirci per le prossime puntate di questo weekend lungo nel Cilento!
