"From the Origins" Indigenous art exhibition [ENG-EPS]

Hello friends, I hope you are all well. Today, Saturday, I had the pleasure of attending an art exhibition dedicated to commemorating our indigenous tribes in Venezuela. This was one of the first territories visited by Spanish explorers, marking the beginning of the discovery and subsequent conquest of the continent. This exhibition had three aspects: one is how, through contemporary art, we can appreciate the indigenous worldview and thus be able to represent it with current techniques. The other aspect is the contemporary art created by the tribes that live in our territory, especially in my city, where a tribe whose descendants keep alive the customs of centuries ago. Finally, I was able to appreciate archaeological relics found in ancient indigenous cemeteries and sites, and thus understand, through the techniques they used, how they perceived their world. I will briefly share my impressions with you through some photos.

Hola amigos, espero que se encuentren muy bien, el día de hoy sábado tuve el grato palcer de poder asistir a una exhibición de arte donde la temática era recordar a nuestras tribus indígenas de Venezuela, siendo este uno de los primeros territorios donde los exploradores españoles visitaron por primera vez, dando inicio al descubrimiento y posterior conquista del continente. Esta exhibición tuvo 3 caras, una de ellas es como desde el arte contemporáneo se puede apreciar la visión del mundo indígena y así poder representarlo con las técnicas actuales, la otra cara es el arte actual que realizan las tribus que existen en nuestro territorio, especialmente en mi ciudad donde existe una tribu donde sus descendientes mantienen vivas las costumbres de hace siglos. Por último, apreciar reliquias arqueológicas que fueron encontradas en antiguos cementerios y yacimientos indígenas, y así comprender a través de la técnica que utilizaban como percibían su mundo. Les comentaré brevemente mis impresiones a través de algunas fotos.

The title of the exhibition is "From the Origins," a current look at the art conceived by indigenous tribes. I have my position on the Spanish conquest of these territories. I don't believe in the Black Legend, much less the Golden Legend. I believe that such a transcendental event had its ups and downs. I think that from the present day, we should study that period without falling into the anachronism of judging events that happened under different circumstances with a 21st-century mentality. And when I had the opportunity to express my opinion, that was one of the things I mentioned.

El nombre de la exposición es "Desde los Orígenes" una mirada actual sobre el arte concebido por las tribus indígenas, yo tengo mi posición acerca de la conquista de España sobre estos territorios, no creo en la leyenda negra, ni mucho menos la leyenda dorada, creo que un hecho tan transcendental como ese tuvo sus luces y sombras. Pienso que desde la actualidad debemos estudiar ese periodo pero sin caer en el anacronismo de juzgar con la mentalidad del siglo XXI hechos que sucedieron bajo otras circunstancias, y cuando tuve la oportunidad de expresar mi opinión fue una de las cosas que mencioné.

Before the tour, we were able to enjoy some musical performances, with a singer-songwriter delighting us with the sound of his Cuatro, a native Venezuelan instrument that can be played in different ways in many regions. A group from the Symphony Orchestra also showed off their mastery of instruments and performance. The museum in my hometown of Barquisimeto was in charge of organizing the entire event.

Antes del recorrido, pudimos disfrutar de unas representaciones artísticas musicales, un cantautor quien nos deleitó con el sonido de su Cuatro, instrumento autóctono de Venezuela y que muchas regiones se puede tocar de maneras diferentes. Así también un grupo de la Orquesta sinfónica quien hizo gala de su maestría en los instrumentos y la interpretación. El museo de mi ciudad Barquisimeto fue el encargado de la organización de todo el evento.

I really enjoyed the beginning of the tour, as it felt like a true return to the past, starting from the contemporary perspective. Several renowned artists from Lara State were able to represent their vision of Indigenous culture, their world, and nature. The influence this has on local artists, and the fact that there are tribes with whom one can engage about their history, provides a perspective that enriches the experience. And for us, as citizens, it's important to establish that connection with our Indigenous roots.

Me gustó mucho el inicio del recorrido, ya que fue como un verdadero al pasado, comenzando desde lo contemporáneo. Diversos artistas reconocidos del Estado Lara pudieron representar su visión de lo indígena, de su mundo y la naturaleza. La influencia que tiene en los artistas locales, el hecho de que existan tribus con las que se puede dialogar acerca de su historia, brinda una perspectiva que enriquece la experiencia. Y para nosotros, como ciudadanos es importante establecer ese vínculo con nuestras raíces indígenas.

We then toured the pavilion of the current tribes, indigenous participants of the Gayón ethnic group. The Gayón Indians were the ones who put up the greatest resistance to the Spanish. They were known as fierce warriors and lived in the most arid mountains. They knew everything about their region and fought great battles against the Spanish invaders. Chronicles tell of a woman who led them, a woman with a very strong war spirit, known as "Light of the Field." The craftsmanship of their descendants today is based on weaving, which they master with great skill. Ceramics is also another highlight of their craft. They live a few kilometers from the city and are open-minded people.

Seguidamente hicimos el recorrido por el pabellon de las tribus actuales, participaros indígenas de la etnia Gayón, los indios gayones fueron los que opusieron mayor resistencia a los españoles, eran conocidos como feroces guerreros y habitaban las montañas más áridas, conocían todo acerca de su región y libraron grandes batallas contra los invasores españoles. Cuentan las crónicas que una mujer los lideraba, y fue una mujer con un espíritu de guerra muy fuerte, era conocida como "Luz del Campo". La artesanía de sus descendientes en la actualidad se basa en el tejido, el cual dominan con mucha maestría, siendo también la cerámica otro detalle resaltante de su artesanía. Viven a pocos kilómetros de la ciudad y son personas abiertas.

We concluded with the archaeological pieces. In this section, we were shown a varied repertoire of figures evoking nature deities. We were taught that the female figure was worshipped in various ways, through rain, earth, and female fertility. Deities were present in every aspect of Native American life. These pieces date back 400 to 500 years. We were also able to witness ornamental pieces such as necklaces made of precious stones and carved bones, as well as spearheads made from rocks and axe blades. It was an impressive experience for me. It was led by an anthropologist who is an expert on Indigenous peoples, and her teaching about the worldview of those ancient inhabitants was wonderful, and it shows how many things persist even in us, the current inhabitants.

Finalizamos en las piezas de arqueologías, en este apartado se nos mostró un variado repertorio de figuras que evocan a deidades de la naturaleza, donde se nos enseñó que la figura femenina era adorada de diversas formas, a través de la lluvia, la tierra y la fertilidad femenina. Las deidades estaban presentes en cada aspecto de la vida de los indios, estas piezas datan de 400 a 500 años de antiguedad, también pudimos ser testigos de piezas ornamentales como collares de piedras preciosas y huesos tallados, así como puntas de lanzas hechas con rocas y hojas de hachas. Fue una experiencia impresionante para mi, estuvo a cargo de una antropóloga experta en pueblos indígenas, y su enseñanza acerca de la visión del mundo de aquellos antiguos habitantes fue algo maravilloso, y se puede observar como muchas cosas persisten aun en nosotros, los habitantes actuales.

Some celebrate Indigenous Resistance, others Hispanic Heritage Day, but I celebrate the meeting of two worlds, and I am part of that new world. Greetings to all!
