Deep maintenance and change of tires on my bicycle [ENG-ESP]

Hello dear friends and bicycle lovers, today I want to share a little with you about some repairs I made to my bicycle. The first and most important was to change the tires, the ones I had had been using since 2019, they turned out very good for all the use I gave them, even though they were not from a recognized brand, however they were already well deteriorated so that I was always running out of air on the road. Another change was the pedals, I removed the old ones that were already destroyed from so much use and replaced them with new ones and finally the seat, this caused me a lot of fatigue apart from the fact that it already looked like a board. In the midst of all these changes I did a good cleaning of the wheel bearings, the bicycle chain and the brakes, since it felt really hard and was a bit difficult to move, here I show step by step how I did it.

Hola queridos amigos y amantes de la bicicletas, hoy quiero compartir un poco con ustedes acerca de algunas reparaciones que hice a mi bicicleta. El primero y el más importante fue cambiar los cauchos, los que tenía los estaba usando desde 2019, salieron muy buenos para todo el uso que le di, a pesar de que no eran de una marca reconocida, sin embargo ya estaban bien deteriorados por lo que siempre me estaba quedando sin aire por la carretera. Otro de los cambios fueron los pedales, quité los viejos que ya estaban destruidos de tanto uso y los reemplacé por unos nuevos y por último el asiento, este me ocasionaba mucho cansancio a parte de que ya parecía una tabla. En medio de todos estos cambios hice una buena limpieza de los rodamientos de las ruedas, la cadena de la bicicleta y los frenos, ya que la sentía realmente muy dura y le costaba un poco desplazar, aquí muestro paso a paso como lo hice.

PROCESS

Very early today I visited several bicycle stores in the city, trying to find the best prices and good quality, so I walked from here to there, until I entered a new store that had offers, there I was able to buy everything, the tires, pedals and seat. I was also admiring some bicycles, especially mountain bikes, in the near future I want to buy one to change the asphalt for the difficult terrain.

Hoy muy tempano visité varias tiendas de bicicleta de la ciudad, tratando de encontrar los mejores precios y de buena calidad, así que anduve de aquí para allá, hasta que entré en una tienda nueva que tenia ofertas, ahí pude comprar todo, los cauchos, pedales y el asiento. También estuve admirando algunas bicicletas, especialmente las de montaña, en el futuro cercano quiero comprarme una para cambiar el asfalto por el terreno difícil.

The first step, disassembling the bicycle, especially removing the wheels, when removing the air it was easy to distinguish the deterioration of the rubber, on the sides everything was cracked and on the cover that moves on the road the layer was very thin, for that reason always had problems. The bearings were dry, the grease was very dirty and mixed with the dust, over time it forms a kind of very hard layer that needs to be removed.

El primer paso, desarmar la bicicleta, especialmente sacar las ruedas, al sacar el airé era fácil distinguir el deterioro de los cauchos, por los costados estaba todo agrietado y en la cubierta que desplaza sobre la carretera la capa era muy delgada, por esa razón siempre tenía problemas. Los rodamientos estaban secos, la grasa estaba muy viena y mezclada con el polvo, con el tiempo se hace una especie de capa muy dura que es necesaria remover.

After removing the old tires, I began to clean everything, to remove all that old grease, I did it with soap and water, especially degreasing soap, with that I removed all the grease. With a toothbrush I cleaned all those areas that were missing and that were difficult to access for my hands.

Luego de sacar los viejos cauchos, comencé a limpiar todo, a remover toda esa vieja grasa, lo hice con agua y jabón, especialmente jabó desengrasante, con eso quité toda la grasa. Con un cepillo de dientes limpié todas aquellas zonas que me faltaban y que eran de difícil acceso para las manos.

After cleaning the wheels very well, removing all traces of moisture, I placed new lubricating grease on all the bearings. I dried everything very well so that no kind of dust or garbage remained. I put the wheels back together by placing the axles inside the wheels and securing them with the nuts, they turned out very well, and especially very smooth for wheels.

Después de limpiar muy bien las ruedas, quitando todo rastro de humedad coloqué grasa lubricante nueva en todos los rodamientos, todo lo sequé muy bien para que no quedara algúna clase de polvo o basura. Armé las ruedas de nuevo colocando los ejes dentro de las ruedas y asegurandolas con las tuercas, quedaron muy bien, y especialmente muy suaves para rodas.

The next step was to mount the new tires, I cleaned the tire area a little so that they fit easily into the wheel, leaving them well aligned and balanced. I mounted them on the back and front and blew air into them. I had to put the rear wheel right because the gear shift was out of adjustment so I had to make some movements to get it aligned properly.

El siguiente paso fue montar los cauchos nuevos, liempie un poco la zona de las llantas para que entraran con facilidad en la rueda, los deje bien alineados y balanceados. Los monté en la parte trasera y en la parte delantera y les eché aire. La rueda trasera tuve que ponerla bien porque el cambio de velocidades estaba desajustado así que tuve que hacer algunos movimientos para que quedara bien alineado.

After that I removed the old pedals, they were iron ones, with which I had had several accidents before, very painful. I removed them because the risk of injury was greater and replaced them with pedals that BMX bikes use, I really liked the design, I know it's not something that is used on road bikes but I don't care, I think they look great.

Después de eso quité los viejos pedales, eran unos de hierro, con los cuales había tenido varios accidentes anteriormente, muy doloros. Los quité porque el peligro de herirme era mayor y los reemplacé por unos pedales que usan las bicicletas BMX, me gustó mucho el diseño, sé que no es algo que se usa en las bicicletas de ruta pero no me importa, creo que se ven geniales.

Finally I put the seat, I bought a soft seat that would help me move around the city, that was soft and had quality materials, I examined it well before buying it and it looked very good. The previous seat was starting to get damaged, especially the protective leather.

Por último puse el asiento, compre un asiento suave, que me sirva para mis movimientos en la ciudad, que estuviera suave y que tuvieras materiales de calidad, lo examiné bien antes de comprarlo y lucía muy bien. El anterior asiento se estaba comenzando a dañar, especialmente el cuero protector.

This is how my bike looked after all the maintenance and repair. In total I spent $38 between the tires, seat and pedals and I saved $30 in maintenance by doing it myself and not taking it to a workshop, because that was the price they had for what I needed. Although it took me most of the day, the satisfaction of doing it myself was gratifying, I wanted to go for a walk, but I better do it tomorrow, I was really a little tired. Así quedó mi bicicleta luego de todo el mantenimiento y reparación. En total gaste $38 entre los cauchos, asiento y pedales y me ahorre $30 en mantenimiento al hacerlo yo mismo y no llevarla a un taller, porque ese era el precio que tenían para lo que yo necesitaba. Aunque me llevó la mayor parte del día, la satisfacción de hacerlo por mi mismo fue gratificante, quise dar un paseo, pero mejor lo hago maána, realmente quedé un poco cansado.
