The Magnificent Rooster and His Wife

1.JPG

Sometimes the mundane can inspire great emotions or feelings. Those who dare to look will be welcomed by a whole new world. For us modern humans stuck in the quasi-globalised world, certain things have become totally normalised. Farm animals being one of those things. But this does not take away from their beauty. With all of the problems surrounding them, they still showcase stunning beauty if you dare to slow down and look.

2.JPG

A magnificent rooster and his wife searched for some bugs when we visited a farm recently and I could not help myself to take some photographs of this innocent yet intimate moment. It was so sweet that they stood next to each other and never left the other alone.

3.JPG

Between the busy scratching in search of food, I caught on camera some moments these beautiful birds did not move. Even though we normally search for exotic birds, these birds still present immense beauty.

4.JPG

Their feathers are beautiful and shimmer when the sunlight falls onto them. One can also see the power and might locked up in their eyes. If we humans were the size of these chickens, they would surely have been our rulers.

5.JPG

They found some food stuck in the cow dung. It is amazing how these animals adapt to their environment and situation. They eat what they can find and they clean out undesirable elements.

6.JPG

In the end, we lost the lovely couple and I found other dominant roosters, calling from corner to corner. We listened to their calls and we imagined ourselves farming chickens. What a lovely thought, surrounded by these birds. But reality kicked in and snapped out of it.

In any case, I hope you enjoyed this post of these magnificent birds. They are really beautiful.

My girlfriend and I are traveling a bit, I am giving a seminar on my work in two days. We are making it a small holiday as well.

Keep well, and happy birding.

All of the photographs are my own, taken with my Nikon D300. The musings and writings are also my own.

Thank you so much! Just arrived at the place we are having a short break before things get busy again in August.

They are for sure! If I can buy big enough property in the future sometime, I’ll get a couple of these handsome boys.

For sure. And quails. It seems so easy but I am sure it comes with a host of problems as well. Things our ancestors knew intuitively how to deal with.

Having free range was something we grew up with, plenty of cleaning and looking after irrespective of which fowl selected.

So true. But it seems so much fun. You let them free on the compost and they eat the bugs but help fertilise it as well with their droppings. Plus you get their eggs and then egg shells for the compost and garden as well.

Excellent cycle to have up and running, hopefully earthworms go too deep for them to scratch out. !LOLZ

Exactly! But I am sure life is not that easy haha. There is a catch in it I am sure. For one, you need that big piece of land!

Big property a lot of work, compact with plenty depending on what you wish to do.

True. But I am a strange kind; I thoroughly enjoy hard work. But getting older, I am sure the body will not want to do the hard work any longer. But while youth is on my side, I love the hard physical work.

Roosters are gorgeous, albeit a little frightening as they race at you across the yard.

happy holiday!

For sure! And geese. I have so many memories of being chased by geese in the local park!
