A Girl Hiding Behind Lemons – A Series of Photographs
yellow shades
hidden behind a spell of colourful wishes
drown my thoughts in your shadow
that I cannot see
yellow shades
shades of yellow
hidden behind a fruit
that I cannot taste
An Ode to the Girl Who I Could Never Write
I found the girl again, outside of my dreams wandering through some lemon orchards. She danced in a dress and then suddenly in a striped outfit. We were transported to Europe to France to a world not of our making and beyond our understanding. A mock visit, a lucid dream, a moment in time that seemed to be out of place. The opposite of déjà vu, a moment that felt like we have not lived through it, but we did. And we also did not. The contradiction of the moment, the contradiction in the second that felt like a lifetime.
She danced and smiled as I followed her deeper into the orchard. Did she lure me in? Was I following her, or did she pull me deeper into her world, the world of her making?
She hid behind fruits so yellow that it felt like I was staring into the sun. Her face was lit up by the fruits, that her face became the sun. I was like a million stars that followed her, sunflowers in a field, faces looking toward the beaming light.
But then night fell, and I could no longer see her. Hidden now not behind her own light, but crawled into the shadows. I could not see her. The sun had set, and once again I was left alone, wondering, did this just happen? Or was it again just a dream that I could not shake?
There are rare moments that just happen. The light falls perfectly on everything. The scene was set as if by accident or by purpose, but not by us. The lemon tree standing behind our home was lit perfectly by the sun, and the rays fell on us like the lighting was set up for the photoshoot. I took some photographs of the girl, and she took some photographs of me. The moment was beautiful and rare. A special moment as my father would say.
In the end, I was happy that we saw this brief moment, a slice in time, before the sun went down behind the horizon.
I hope you enjoyed the photographs and musings.
All of the musings and writings are my own, albeit inspired by the girl dancing between the lemons. The photographs are my own, taken with my Nikon D300 and Nikkor 50mm lens.
Bravo!
I love the photo shoot with the interesting lighting, neat subjects, and neat depth of field. The musings make it even more meaningful!
