TROPICAL BIRD IN KEY WEST FLORIDA~~~SHOW ME A PHOTO CONTEST ROUND 113 #smap
In February 2019 we traveled to Key West Florida. We had never been that far south in the state and was worth every extra mile we drove. We had booked a hotel for the week and were ready to explore every nook and cranny that pleased our fancy.
As nature lovers one of our first stops was the butterfly and bird museum. It was within walking distance from our rental so after a nice breakfast at a waterfront cafe we headed to the museum.
It was such a magical experience, butterflies were everywhere in this glass enclosure, the birds were singing and flitting from one tropical plant to another. Beautiful flowering trees and bushes were covered in birds and butterflies, the colors were impressive.
One bird really took my breath away, a large bird with gorgeous pink/orange feathers, a flamingo.
Certainly not as beautiful without the colors, as you can see in this black and white photo of the same bird, yet still pretty darn cool to look at.
Their long necks were amazing as they could curve and shrink them anytime they felt the need.
I thought this was a wonderful photo of the feathers that had picked up the sunlight coming through the glass roof.
I would enjoy going back to Key West and the museum, there were still so many joints I didn't get to explore, a week is just not long enough to take in the beauty.
As sunset approaches, the boats come out and people ready their cameras for the riot of colors that glisten off the water as the sun drifts down and says good night. It is such an exquisite sight to see.
This is my entry in this week's #smap contest.
Welcome back @nelinoeva, you are a wonderful host. Congratulations to you and your family on the recent marriage of your son. Excellent!
Blessings to all.
Man those are so iconic!
Remember when people used to have plastic pink flamingos on their lawn as decorations?
Love those big birds that are a little scary when you are up close!
Oh yeah, I remember those crazy lawn decorations. When I was there those flamingoes didn't want any part of people, I tried to get beyond the fence to get good pix but they quacked and hissed at me and I got scared.
They were absolutely gorgeous though and I was impressed with their feathers and long necks. I sure hope I get to go back to Key West, it was an awesome place to play.
I really like the BnW photo. It has a depth that the colored one does not have. And a movement. It's less about the bird, and more about the tableau.
Sounds like you had a great trip. You drove across the keys to get there?
Hello fellow New Yorker, @owasco Yes we drove through all the Florida southwest keys to finally end up in Key West, it's the southernmost tip of the continental United States, just 90 miles from Cuba.
That was the place that Ernest Hemmingway wrote his best works in literature. We viewed from the outside, but were unable to gain access, the place was jammed and the line to get into his home and display of his work was hours long, not what @thebigsweed could tolerate. My self as well, too many other places to have fun wink wink. We found the Rumruner instead.
Fantastic close-ups of the flamingo, so striking is the colour. I can imagine how exciting it might be among the butterflies and birds. 🙂
Thank you very much for your kind words. I am still under the spell of the recent events and soon will post about the wedding. You know how it feels when your child get married. 🙂
Oh, I did not see the link of your post, you still have time to add it.
