Hello to all, it's that time again to #smap for the contest run expertly by our fellow bird lover @nelinoeva. This week's theme IS...

FLEDGLINGS/YOUNG BIRDS

ROBIN'S ROBINS

It's the perfect time of year here in Upstate New York to search out bird nests. I have had some pretty good luck finding Robin's nests. The one I am showcasing was built on a very special tree. I planted a miniature weeping pussy willow the year my dad passed away, It's an amazing tree, its branches are gnarly, all twisted up just below a canopy of small branches that bloom with these tiny little fuzz balls that are so soft to the touch.

As I was walking by this memorial tree one fine morning, a robin burst out of the tree and really gave me a piece of her mind, not at all friendly. A mother will always protect her young, it's the natural order of things. It was then I knew there had to be a nest somewhere in that willow tree.

As much as I disliked upsetting momma, I had to try to get a look-see, I wanted to know for sure if the nest held a few of those adorable tiny blue robin's eggs.

YUP, sure enough, Dad's tree was their new home.

I was excited to see the eggs and knew it wouldn't be long before they hatched.

I gave it a few days then went back to the nest, creeping as quietly as possible as I approached the nest again. Momma was all up in my face, as was the dad who got into the act of scolding me, dive-bombing at my head was Papa's specialty.

After I grabbed a few quick photos I high-tailed it out of the Robin family's space.

I can see why they were so crazy to keep me away. These fledglings were fresh out of the pretty blue shells, completely vulnerable at such an early age.

Just a few days later,I could see the little ones were maturing quickly, we can now see that all three birdies had made it.

I commend Ma and Pa for defending their little fuzz balls.

They couldn't have picked a better tree to build their nest, it has lots of camouflage and protection for the young ones.

My dad would have loved to see his tree full of new life. It was special for me too, I talked to the Robins and said hello to my dad with a smile on my face and happy memories in my heart.

Thanks to the #featheredfriends community, I think anyone who loves birds, as well as nature, is aces in my book.

@melinda010100, @barbara-orenya, you gals are the best, thanks for all your efforts and support.

Love, peace, and baby birds. ❤️ ✌️ 🐤

Oh, yes, especially whenever one does not feel too well, as nature is a great healer.

My pleasure and I only do what I think is the right thing to do. You guys do a lot for us and it's only my way to support, as you certainly deserve it Lady Robin.

We've had a surfeit of robins' nests this year. There was the one beautifully built one in the azalea, abandoned because that's a high traffic area. There was one in the new woodshed, abandoned because the contractor is back at work. There's one in the forsythia right on the driveway, still has birds going in and out. And the one in the rose bush, too small by far, but she's still there...

But I can't see the babies in the 2 in use, so it was cool to see your photos. :))

Robin's robins are sooo cute, parents are doing their job brilliantly, got the best place for their nest. Isn't it wonderful to have them on that memorial tree?
Thank you again for this lovely post.
