Little army

Lichen stump bw 1.jpg

I don't normally post Lichens in black and white. I do like their pale green or grey colour contrasting with brown, rotten wood they usually grow on.
But (there is always a but) I put some music on and started to play with some photos and was curious how would they turn out after I strip them from all the pretty green and grey...

Not too shabby :)

There was a whole army of them growing on an old pine stump. Dozens and dozens of tiny little soldiers. They are jut few millimetres across and less that 1 cm in height. The biggest cup I even found not on this stump) as maybe 5mm across and it was a giant!

The big stick in in the front of the photo are pine needles, so you can imagine how small they are.

What you see here is Cladonia Lichen also called Cup Lichen which doesn't surprise me at all. It is quite a distinctive shape and cannot be confused with anything else when you see it.

But (there is always a but) @ewkaw.

Even though you say there's a but, Lichens in black and white are unique due to that but. I honestly saw this for the first time. I also tried to show the caterpillar in black and white last night. We know the beauty of color is truly amazing. But (there is always a but) the caterpillar's pose in black and white is what makes it interesting and shows another side of black and white. In photography, there is nothing bad about bringing out the other side as long as it is positive. God bless you.

Some objects look better in colour, some really stand out in monochrome. We just have to play with the photos and see :)

Agree with you. More interesting and more spirit to find an object in black and white. Thank you @ewkaw. Blessing

It's Lichen - not quite a mushroom :)
I am sure you have some type of Lichens in your country. They are everywhere!

Glad you liked it :)
