Old Priluki

Priluki is a former village, now a subdistrict of Vologda, where the Spaso-Prilutsky Monastery is located. There is an old part here, which is located along the Vologda River.

An abandoned church stands in the middle of a cemetery.

The main street of the old part of Priluk is paved with cobblestones.

There are a lot of old wooden houses, so-called huts with a mezzanine.

The buildings are dense, and the streets have twists and turns.

At the end of the old part of Priluk there used to be a bridge over the Pudezhka River, but now it does not exist.

The Pudezhka also flows slightly upstream in the area of the old village.

In the distance, new houses can be seen in the Settlement on the opposite bank of the river.

It's a very cozy and atmospheric place!

It is a pity that everything is being built up with new houses, losing the unique look of historical places.

There has always been a outgoing nature at all times, but I don't think our ancestors will admire the current modern architecture.

I wish I could restore some of those houses, especially the one made of logs! Most of them are probably constructed the same way under they outer layer...

I've worked a tiny bit on things like that, on wood since I was a kid, including repairing the keel of my first sailboat, its very rewarding work!

Also sometimes it can look like its beyond repair, while the opposite is the case, if there is no mold and not too much rot its often all about straightening it out using jacks, pulleys and so on to start with 🙂

I really want people to restore their homes to their historical appearance, and not build new ugly soulless cottages. But no one wants to work with wood, everyone needs it faster and cheaper...and to stand as long as possible
