Greetings dear readers today I give life and love to my blog presenting a restoration art that I really did not expect to come to me again 😮.
En el 2017 realicé una máscara cuya imagen solicitada fue la del rostro de un Minotauro, personaje mitológico con cabeza de toro y cuerpo humano, este fue un arte hecho con alambre, papel mache y pintura al frío. Después de modelar con alambre lo que tenia en mente, lo que surgió fue un hibrido entre un toro y caballo con cornamentas, 😃 sin embargo para el momento cumplió el objetivo para una actividad de “Desarrollo Personal” cuyo propósito era que formara parte de una dinámica guiada por facilitadores de Biodanza.
In 2017 I made a mask whose requested image was the face of a Minotaur, mythological character with a bull's head and human body, this was an art made with wire, paper mache and cold paint. After modeling with wire what I had in mind, what emerged was a hybrid between a bull and a horse with antlers, 😃 however for the moment it fulfilled the objective for an activity of “Personal Development” whose purpose was to be part of a dynamic guided by Biodanza facilitators.
La idea era que uno de los facilitadores pudiera representar con la máscara el personaje del minotauro, un ser concebido por un encantamiento de los Dioses, cuyo trasfondo está relacionado a los secretos, vergüenza, obediencia, pactos y represiones a causa de las creencias y códigos sociales de los pueblos originarios que no aprobaban la expresión autentica del ser.
The idea was that one of the facilitators could represent with the mask the character of the minotaur, a being conceived by an enchantment of the Gods, whose background is related to secrets, shame, obedience, pacts and repressions due to the beliefs and social codes of the original peoples that did not approve the authentic expression of the being.
2 años después volvieron a entregarmela para realizarle una remodelación, con esta versión si logré una expresión más asertada de lo deseado, lamentablemente de este proceso tampoco tengo registro, pero si las condiciones de como llegó a mi para su ultima presentación en el mes de agosto de 2025.
2 years later they returned to deliver it to me for a remodeling, with this version if I achieved a more successful expression of the desired, unfortunately I have no record of this process either, but if the conditions of how it came to me for his last presentation in the month of August 2025.
Esta es la segunda remodelación que hago de la máscara la cual me entregaron con la potestad de realizarle los ajustes según mi criterio. Fue así como empecé a idealizar sus colores y expresión, pensando siempre que no perdiera la imagen original, aunque ha venido mutando, es así como a continuanción presento la restauración del minotauro.
This is the second remodeling I do of the mask which was given to me with the power to make the adjustments according to my criteria. This is how I began to idealize its colors and expression, always thinking that it would not lose the original image, although it has been mutating, as well as the restoration of the minotaur.
Paso – Step 1:
Empece por los cuernos utilizando rollos de papel sanitario y retazos de papel craft adhiriendo y dando la forma con engrudo básico (pega con agua). Esperando que secara durante horas para poder pintarlos.
I started with the horns using rolls of toilet paper and scraps of craft paper, adhering and shaping them with basic paste (glue with water). Waiting for it to dry for hours before I could paint them.
Paso – Step 2:
Luego me dedique a fondear con pintura blanca, de este modo fue perdiendo los colores anteriores dejándome la incertidumbre de como iniciaba su nueva expresión, si hay algo que tengo claro es que los colores revisten a la naturaleza dándole las características que la identifican, y eso deseaba con el minotauro.
Then I dedicated myself to anchor with white paint, in this way it was losing the previous colors leaving me the uncertainty of how it began its new expression, if there is something that I have clear is that the colors dress the nature giving it the characteristics that identify it, and that is what I wanted with the minotaur.
Paso – Step 3:
Después de fondear con pintura blanca y esperar su secado, empecé a demarcar de forma instintiva lo que saliera de mi creatividad, triángulos, picos espinas que se dirigían hacia un solo punto, “El laberinto”, imagen relevante cuya idea fue que se convirtiera en el punto central de la máscara, eso me pareció tan poderoso, pues según la mitología el laberinto fue la residencia y el encierro eterno del minotauro, lugar donde fue condenado a vivir con sus instintos, monstruosidad y soledad.
After painting with white paint and waiting for it to dry, I instinctively began to mark out whatever came out of my creativity, triangles, spikes and thorns that went towards a single point, “The labyrinth”, a relevant image whose idea was to become the central point of the mask, that seemed so powerful to me, because according to mythology the labyrinth was the residence and eternal confinement of the minotaur, a place where he was condemned to live with his instincts, monstrosity and loneliness.
Paso – Step 4:
Los colores que decidí colocarle estaban relacionado al fuego y la tierra (rojo, amarillo, marrón y negro, procurando dar expresión de fuerza.
The colors I decided to use were related to fire and earth (red, yellow, brown and black, trying to give an expression of strength.
Paso – Step 5:
Deseaba darle más expresión de violencia, fue por eso que decidí agregarle papel maché en las cejas y así modelar la expresión de fuerza y seriedad especialmente en el entrecejo.
I wanted to give it a more violent expression, that's why I decided to add papier-mache to the eyebrows to model the expression of strength and seriousness, especially between the eyebrows.
Paso – Step 6:
Cuando realicé la primera máscara no le coloqué barba, para la segunda sí y utilizando retazos de una cobija en desuso que con los años se mantuvo intacta y adherida perfectamente, teniendo partes largas que reutilicé para llenar vacíos, pegando con silicón caliente.
When I made the first mask, I didn't add a beard, but I did for the second one, using scraps from an old blanket that had remained intact over the years and adhered perfectly. I reused the long pieces to fill in gaps, gluing them with hot silicone.
Paso – Step 7:
Una vez listo el pelaje me dediqué cuidadosamente a pintar el laberinto para luego pegarle unos detalles plásticos fosforescente en puntos específicos, de manera que cuando estuviera en la oscuridad tuviera resplandor, especialmente al borde y centro de los ojos, al igual que en el centro del laberinto, y en algunos partes de la melena (lamentablemente no supe como tomar esa foto a oscuras, pero de verdad se veía muy impactante cuando hice las pruebas).
Once the fur was ready, I carefully painted the maze and then stuck some phosphorescent plastic details on specific points so that when it was in the dark it would glow, especially around the edges and center of the eyes, as well as in the center of the maze and in some parts of the mane (unfortunately, I didn't know how to take that photo in the dark, but it really looked very impressive when I did the tests).
Paso – Step 8:
Otro detalle que no podía falta era el aro encajado en la nariz, típico elemento que es colocado a los toros para dominarlos por este punto de su fisionomía que suele ser muy sensible, y que, dentro de este contexto de restauración de la máscara para un taller de desarrollo personal, me hace mucho sentido, en virtud del control que ejercemos los seres humanos con nuestros propios instintos, los cuales si los reconociéramos, integráramos y reeducáramos en función del bienestar personal y colectivo, tendríamos una versión más congruente de nosotros mismos.
Another detail that could not be missing was the ring embedded in the nose, a typical element that is placed on the bulls to dominate them by this point of their physiognomy that is usually very sensitive, and that, within this context of restoration the mask for a personal development workshop, makes a lot of sense to me, by virtue of the control that we human beings exercise with our own instincts, which if we recognize, integrate and re-educate them in terms of personal and collective well-being, we would have a more congruent version of ourselves.
Paso – Step 9:
Una vez concluido los cuernos con detalles de arabesco, creí que así estaba lista, por eso envié la foto a quienes me solicitaron la reestauración de la máscara para que me dieran su opinión.
Once the horns with arabesque details were completed, I thought it was ready, so I sent the photo to those who asked me to restore the mask for their opinion.
De entrada, causó impacto presentando para ellos una apariencia fantasmal especialmente por los ojos blanco, el objetivo no era reforzar miedos, por tanto me solicitaron colocarle pupilas, entonces les sugerí pintarle una llamita como pupila en cada ojo, en representación de la luz que se busca al encontrarnos en la oscuridad.
Drom the beginning, it caused an impact, presenting for them a ghostly appearance especially for the white eyes, the objective was not to reinforce fears, so they asked me to place pupils, then I suggested painting a flame as a pupil in each eye, representing the light that is sought when we find ourselves in the dark.
Paso – Step 10:
Esta propuesta fue aprobada culminando el arte con pupilas de fuego, y un barniz de pega para proteger la pintura y darle un acabado semibrillante.
This proposal was approved culminating the art with pupils of fire, and a glue varnish to protect the paint and give it a semi-gloss finish.
Con todo este proceso quedé muy satisifecha, primero porque se lo que es participar en este taller que realicé tres veces durante mi formación como facilitadora de Biodanza, donde tuve la oportunidad de encontrarme con mis miedos y represiones más ocultas, guardadas en mi Inconsciente y que al reconocerlas amorosamente le dí luz y paz a muchos aspectos de mi vida.
With all this process I am very satisfied, first because I know what it is to participate in this workshop that I did three times during my training as a Biodanza facilitator, where I had the opportunity to meet with my fears and hidden repressions, stored in my inscocnciente and that by recognizing them lovingly I gave light and peace to many aspects of my life.
Los facilitadores quedaron agradecidos y satisfechos logrando afectivamente cumplir con el objetivo, depués de su ardua jornada me compartieron la foto de la máscara antes de su presentación, frente a los participantes del taller quienes entrarían a su propio laberinto.
The facilitators were grateful and satisfied, and after their hard work, they shared with me the photo of the mask before its presentation in front of the workshop participants, who would enter their own labyrinth.
