HARVESTING OF PALM FRUITS

There is always a joy that comes with harvesting. It is a beautiful and also a sunny day over here and it has been sunny since the beginning of this month.

Yesterday I went to visit my grandma in the village and we both went to her palm fruit farm to make some harvest because they were ripe and ready for harvest. We needed to do that because someone else might visit and harvest it without our consent. We are in the season where everyone is harvesting what they planted so we need to also share our experience as we harvest. Talking about the palm fruit is what we harvest every month.

Palm fruit is the raw material where our palm oil is obtained and as we all know during the dry and sunny season like this is when they ripe more , there is always a lot to harvest during this period.
Palm oil is what we use commonly here in #Nigeria to make our food palatable. Knowing it is a source of nitrite needed in the body.

Early in the morning we went to the farm with some who will help us to harvest it because harvesting the palm fruits needs someone who is skilled in doing that, after harvesting from the farm we moved it to the house. We then cut them in pieces for easy separation so that we can take it to the mule for processing.

Separating the palm fruit from the chaff is not really easy, as one needs to be careful because the chaffs are very sharp and can injure you if not careful. Those of us who are from the village who might visited a place where palm fruit is being processed into palm oil can relate better 🤣🤣 because by the time you're careless about it you will understand when the chaff comes in contact with your hand. The process of harvesting and selecting took us a whole day before we were able to finish it.

When we were done with the selecting process we then moved them to the mile where we used a big pot to cook it, added enough water and a steady fire till it was ready, we then packed it out to the engine that help in blending, and from blending there we moved it to another manual machine that will help to press it to make the oil drain out with water.

This process is done manually and then the oil which is mixed with water will be cooked to separate it. Then we got our oil.
