Residents of Umo Ekpo Street, Ikot Ekpene, have raised an urgent SOS after yesterday’s heavy rainfall left the entire Street submerged, flooding homes and destroying valuable properties.

The affected street, which can be accessed through Aba Road by Holy Child Girls Secondary School or via Library Avenue close the Catholic Cathedral, Ikot Ekpene Diocese, road leading to the popular Zikky Bar, is now a scene of devastation. As seen in the pictures, several homes have been flooded, with residents struggling to salvage their belongings after the floodwaters swept through the area.

According to residents, the persistent flooding is a long-standing problem they have repeatedly complained about, but their appeals for a lasting drainage solution have not received the needed attention. Yesterday’s downpour once again exposed the severity of the situation, leaving many families displaced and counting heavy losses.

The affected residents are calling on the Government, the Ikot Ekpene Local Government Council, and relevant emergency agencies to urgently visit the area and provide immediate relief, while also implementing a permanent solution to end the recurring flooding.
